I have only been collecting for about a year and a half and want to start getting a few of my coins graded to assure myself of their authenticity. Anyone have any issues with Isabella quarters getting "no grades" due to cleaning or damage? I'll post a pic and let me know what you all think.

Also, if you get a non grade does it say genuine still?

Generally, when a TPG is going to body bag a coin for reasons that are obvious to them, such as improperly cleaned, damage, etc. they label them as DETAILS GENUINE, or GENUINE IMPROPERLY CLEANED, etc.

That authenticates the coin, but because of the details or damage(either environmental or from improper cleaning) it won't grade.

Unfortunately, lots of Isabella quarters were either harshly cleaned or polished in their day. Actual original Isabella's sell for a substantial premium if it grades out.

I'd be more worried about the cleaning/polishing and whizzing... It will get a Genuine "grade".

Ouch Joe, based off the photo, it appears someone put a little elbow grease into it. The hairlines and even flat gray color give it all away.

    A non cleaned example..

    Here's mine, I think it may actually be closer to an AU55 than a 58 1893 25C Isabella PCGS AU58 Obverse.jpg 1893 25C Isabella PCGS AU58 reverse.jpg

I wasn't trying to be rude, I hope it wasn't taken that way.

Put it in the window sill and see if it tones. Gonna take awhile. After that, put it in an airtite and enjoy it for what it is.....

Bottom line, It really only matters what others think if you plan on selling it. If not then enjoy it for what it is like Green said. It is your coin, in your collection. Who cares what everyone else thinks!

    Be happy and collect coins!

It means I agree with that posters opinion, and rather than type it out, a simple +1 says it all.
