    Hey gang!

It's time for another installment of "Do They Upgrade?".

These coins are both in PCGS MS64 Rattler holders.

So... Do they upgrade? One or both? Why?

Assuming the holder of the first one is beat up a little, i'll say the first one might...i dont think the second one.

That was stated in the opening post, FYI.

There is a pretty good jump in price between 64 and 65's currently. I guess I should state that I already know what I'm going to do I just wanted to see what everyone else thought.

I think that the 24 will upgrade, but the 28 has just too many marks in the field of the reverse and it has more marks on the wings of the eagle to be a 65. I have had some pretty good luck with upgrades from the old rattlers. Once had a 1881 PR64 three cent come back as a PR67. Although I would have never bought it as a 67.

I think the first will stay the same at 64 just a little too much chatter IMO.

I also think the second should downgrade to AU58 but again will stay at 64. It sure looks like rub in the images to me.

But on the off chance that two of the three graders got up on the right side of the bed that morning $70.00+shipping invested on the two is a worth while bet.

You have a good shot with both IMO. Remember the 1928s usually don't have the eye appeal of some other dates; the grading services know exactly which dates have the best strikes, luster, or tend to have more bagginess. The 1927s tend to have above average eye appeal and according to Mr. Salzburg of NGC, PCGS tends to grade more of those 65 than NGC--I'm just saying that in terms of grading philosophy and would reference the interview of Salzburg of NGC with Maurice Rosen available on the NGC site and elsewhere without copyright restrictions.

I think the first one has a good shot.

Have to wonder who would buy something like that where the putty job went bad?????

It looks like it might be on the holder.... but then again the reverse opposite of that looks suspect as well.

Maybe the buyer intends on submitting it for the grade guarantee which will get it out of that PCGS holder?

My answer is that I don't know enough about Saints to give an informed opinion. However, to those who are indicating that the coins are AU: you are using your standards for grading and not the standards employed by PCGS. The OP asked if the coins would upgrade, not how you would grade them.

How nice to see Saints that aren't baggy. So many have disappointing eye appeal.

I like the 24 better of the two but I think neither will upgrade. Still, very pretty.

I think the 1924 would, but the smashed face of Miss Liberty would hold the 1928 back.

I will be sending them to PCGS this week.

    We will see.

I would say no based off the pictures, but then again I am not too familiar with Saints. All I know is I blew the pictures up and have a question - are the rims always so baggy on saints? The few I looked at on heritage did not have as many marks as those you posted.

I'm going with no on both. Sorry, Matt.
