    someone has read my signature...

I dont know who said it, or the exact words, but it was something like, "Oh, look, its a Suzan B. Anthony dollar! You can take that to the bank and trade it for a real dollar."

If you're going to collect something (and everybody collects something), might as well be money.

In the words of a high end coin dealer at long beach when asked out the 25th Silver eagle anv set. "***k Modern you boys need to collect old things that don't make any more!"

Needless to say I didn't buy the set and bought a 1909 s Vdb and went back to show the guy and he was excited for me while I was still considering the fact I spent that much for a penny.

About the same penny when I considered trading it for a MS 68 Morgan "Don't trade it, next year they'll be twice as many of those Morgans around, they don't make more of these." I thought it was an interesting quote and very true by a guy who deals in high grade Morgans.

At my coin club meeting. "Do you think the government will axe the Penny?"
Whole club "No that would make sense..."

"It's what you do after you know it all that counts" Read it in a bar in Cincinnati last week and thought it applied to numismatics.

    Show it more often.

The late Carl Allenbaugh who wrote a column
for COINS called Expertease is by far my favorite
Numismatical writer. He collected aviation theme
medals and art bars. Apparently he didn't like what
he was seeing lately: "Incidently, if some of the
medalists who portray aerial history on medals
and bars had tutored the Wright brothers, they'd
    have invented the skateboard."

Jason, if you disagree with that quote, "coins are not good investments", then I would say one of two things:

    1. You are a dealer and can buy cheaply and sell at retail. That is about the only circumstance that would change that quote.

    or

    2. At some point you are going to become disappointed when calculating your ROI from collector coins. Except for some unusual timeframes, its rare for a coin bought at retail and sold later on to come anywhere close to real investment returns.

You simply do not need to believe us, many new collectors don't, but I am afraid at some point in the future that cold hard fact will slap you across the face. :(

    Chris

P.S. My favorite quote btw is "buy the book before the coin", not that I think that has to be followed exactly, but I love how it emphasizes education as an integral part of this hobby.

My time is very valuable to dig that document/s that I read that one of TPG has been sued for a replacement of a real coin to a fake one..One thing more is a matter of common sense that all TPG is not 100 percent trustable if you have a million dollar coin go ahead ship it to them by mail.Let's see what gonna happen of your million US dollar coin... Be SMART always when it comes to valuable rare coin you have. if just only have a common coin value at 100$ oh yes I/you can ship that coin for grading...But not a valuable one...The TPG must certified that coin in public that every one is watching that there will be NO HOCUS POCUS or coin switching gonna happen. Like Mr. Alan Hager certified my coin in public at Baltimore Coin Show in Maryland year 2000/ March. And He explaned very well about my coin that no need to have an MS ++ . He certified as 1995 Penny On Dime-ACG-MINT. This coin has Two 1995 Full dates obverse and many more of original details of a cent and dime. the most major dramatic coin in all Doubled Denomination. And I think this is the very first certified and the rest followed to certified cent on a strike dime because all that double denomination is lack of details..

Hope this will help you to understand it. You ca not trus 100% oft all TPG when it comes to a very valuable coin to grade without your eyes looking on them.. This is only MY HONEST OPINION.

  16. Sorry, I trust the TPG I use for grading 100% of the time. I know what my coins look like before I send them for grading. No need for a tinfoil hat.
