My guess--it's only a guess--is that fee-bay cut a deal with NGC & PCGS. FeeBay is out for FeeBay--period. Usually it's to raise fees & curtail the rights of sellers. But recently I bought a very expensive electronic item on FeeBay. It didn't work. FeeBay not only denied my claim, but alledged that I had broken it(!). Their "policies" aren't worth the paper (or web page) they're written on. As far as ANACS, I think that their banning ANACS stinks. ANACS may be "#3", but they are still a very credible grading firm ......
However, seller protection means nothing if the buyer files a charge back with their credit card company. LostDutchman's situation is the example of this. He followed eBay's policies for the sale, shipping, etc. and the buyer still got their money back and have the coin as well.
OK. I asked the question because what is being reported here - http://www.coinnews.net/2012/04/18/...-updates-to-enhance-coins-experience-on-ebay/ - is different from what the guy in the video said, and you reported. It kind of makes me wonder what the exact wording of the standards the TPG must meet actually are.
Ahhhh - so it's all a conspiracy. I should have realized that Ya know, the same kind of comments were made about the ANA when the ANA announced that they were taking bids from the various TPGs, for the TPG with the winning bid being able to use the ANA logo on their slabs. The ANA has requirements that the TPG must meet for that TPG to qualified to place a bid. And of course the bottom tier and lower tier TPGs all complained when that happened too. The fact that they couldn't meet those requirements so they could be qualified to bid, that had nothing to do with it, now did it ? That's a conspiracy too isn't it ? And similar things are said of the US MINT, because they have requirements for a dealer to become qualified to buy bullion coins directly from the Mint. And yeah, that's all part of the same conspiracy I'll tell ya what the conspiracy is. The conspiracy is that the coin market is tired of the crap. They are tired of the scumbags and lowlifes taking advantage of people. Tired of seeing harshly cleaned coins, in slabs, counterfeits in slabs, grossly over-graded coins in slabs, AT coins in slabs. The list goes on and on. So yeah, it's high time that people started doing something. I've been screaming about people doing something for 15 years ! I just wish they'd do more of it !
The only difference between what I posted and what was printed, other than the specific wording, is the inclusion of the 3 graders bit and the slab requirements. However, the printed information states John Albanese (exclusively) while the UTube video "implies" others. Since Albanese owns or is at the minimum a "Founding Partner" of CAC, I'd like to toss this entire process in the trash since the standards Albanese has related coicide exactly with what coins CAC will examine. It's starting to stink of collusion in here based upon one man's opinion under the guise of "offering comfort" to the potential eBay buyer. The eBay buyer which needs this protection is the same one that "bids" on listings without pictures for sellers with countless negs and then runs to eBay to pay for his screw-ups! Perhaps eBay should instead implement some type of investigation for returns when they hit a cedrtain number. Both from the buyer and from the seller but I don't think such an action would be covered with the "Shotgun" or "knee-jerk reaction" approach that eBay typically takes.
Actually the coin scumbags are less problems than the gem stone scumbags on ebay. The worst offenders are from Thailand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Brazil, etc. The stiones may be filled with oil, melted lead glass, irradiated in "hot" nuclear facilities, have fake "TPG" or self produced ones, heated, even synthetics that Russia produces with slight defects that makes them appear as real natural stones when cut. In the US, the GIA is like PCGS and NGC, but without the paper, all bets are off. If ebay could eliminate the scumbags in this area, there would only be a few dealers there. I wish they would make it a requirement to have a GIA level cert when listing, but meanwhile, study, study, study , and buy good equipment. Jim
Why can't Ebay just let people buy what they want and sell what they want. Buyers of ANACS graded coins, replica medals, tokens, etc....know what they want and what they are getting. It does seem that Ebay is not extending the replica policy to those coins with current dates, or different sizes, i.e. novelty replicas or collector programs replicating coins.
Bottom line is ebay is nothing more than a bunch of edited from California. San Josie I believe. As long as you sell a fake looking slab they will let you sell it for PCGS/NGC money. Just don't sell an ANACS or anything else for the proper amount. As long as you are are one of their edited "powder puff" power sellers and pay them listing fees, photo fees and lots of final selling fees to bolster their bottom line they let you sell what you want, do what you want and rip people off the way you want. I know where from I speak. They pulled a listing of mine a few years back because their policy at the time was I couldn't say F-12 in the titling. I put Fine and they took issue with it as I spelled it out and didn't just put F in the title. I fired back a nasty, cuss word ladent email showing that 1) I had always listed that way from the beginning around 2004. I called them on their hypocracy. When I was paying listing fees they never said a word as soon as I started listing for "free" all of sudden things were a problem. 2) that their policy said I could only put the word and not assign a NUMERIC (12) grade to the title. 3) that I would pull all listing and close my account and they would lose my business. 4) showed them their power sellers doing the same in their listings without harassment. They send an email (you could almost hear the tears in the email of the broad who responded) that they (ebay) didn't like being sworn at and talk to that way but conceeded I was right and I relisted my item and haven't heard a peep from them since. Although I don't put nearly what I used to on ebay. Just my two cents.
