I pulled this beauty out of a roll yesterday and I thought I'd share.

It is a 1964 (the weight is right, it has an all silver edge, and the point of the 4 is discernable, so it should be slabable. I know that there are people who pay a premium for PO1 coins, but first does this one qualify? and if it does how do I locate such a person?

Wow!!! Now that is WORN. If you can get it into a PCGS slab, there are people with PO-1 registry sets that would want it.

My best guess on a coin like that is that it was intentionally worn down to where it is. Kennedy Halves didn't and still don't circulate. This would have to have been one coin that was used about a Million times to get that much wear. I do believe that it is an honest PO-1, but still remain objective as to how it got that way. Nonetheless, still a great coin find. Nice job.

I have no doubt that this will bring big bucks on eBay. :goofer:

    Congratulations!

On a similar note, at our local coin club there was a member who had a PO-1 set, framed and all... and I distinctly recall that he was disappointed that one coin came back G-4. It's nice to have fun with the hobby, isn't it?

Of course, there's at least one place I know that could proably give you a PF-99 grade on that half... ;)

Looks PO-1 to me, probably will grade MS70 if you send it to sgs to get graded though...

I don't know, think there could be Artifical Toning here and Enviromental Damage. I'd have to go with APO-1.

Quite possibly this was kept in someone's pocket and rubbed repeatedly for good luck or some such. I had a 1974 Kennedy half that looked about AG-3 and that was my guess how it acquired so much wear in only about 30 years.

I'd agree with PO-1. To be honest, I've never seen any coin under AG-3 in a slab; I'm sure if you got it slabbed and put it on eBay someone would want it just for the sake of novelty... should get back the grading fee at least. To actually make a profit would take finding a special buyer who would pay more for the novelty than the value of the coin plus the grading fee... but I'm sure that buyer is out there somewhere. Or just keep it for novelty's sake yourself. If the Kennedy half was a rare coin more than 150 years old, I wouldn't mind owning it in that condition... I think it's interesting to see what modern coins will end up looking like with that much wear.

I agree. I'd love to see what a G-4 to VF20 ASE would look like if it was a circulation coin. I have a feeling it would be pretty nice. I think I've got this coin disease that makes me like the look of circulated coins in various states of wear.

Oh yeah, it qualifies. They might have to make a new grade for that one - PO.5 :D

Second question, easy - go to the PCGS or NGC forums and look up Braddick ;)
