Hey everyone, i was looking through a bag of wheats i bought and came across a 1955 penny with something irregular in between the b and e in liberty. Its a curved shaped die clash maybe?? Would be my best guess i really do not know i checked coppercoins.com for varieties with no luck. Any help is appreciated on what it is. And sorry i know the photos are not great i only have my phone for a camera.
yes it is raised so iwrong that it is a die clash. it looks to me what an under mintmark sometimes looks like
I'm confused. You're not talking about the dig above the BE in LIBERTY? What then? The photos aren't much help. Clashing leaves raised marks, FWIW. Lance.
and thanks green its the droid razor if i knew how to mess with the settings id make them better but im no good with that.
Looks like it may be the start of a BIE error. Here is the description from Coneca at http://conecaonline.org/content/glossary.html
billy can see it thats great im not seeing things..thanks that makes sense..anyone else have an opinion
The usual image of BIE cracks are after the whole piece of metal between the B and E breaks off. From those pics you posted yours may be an earlier die state before that piece of metal totally broke off. I do see something, and it may be a die crack. I'm just mentioning possibilities.
I see what looks like a dot under and between the BE. It could be an EDS of the BIE. Really hard to say for sure as I have not seen a progression of the chip over the years. I blew the pic up as far as I could take it until it started to pixel out. If you could get a clear macro shot of just that area it would be helpful. Also, anything odd on the reverse of this piece at all?
