Hi gang - I received this as part of a lot I purchased on Ebay. The lot consisted of 5 lbs. unsorted wheats, a couple of rolls of circ. single years, a couple of rolls of uncirc early 60's and four or five coins in cardboard flips. The seller says he's liquidating his dad's collection and he's not a collector. This is the third such lot I've purchased and have not been disappointed, quite a few key dates in the teens and twenties, although of lower quality. This, however, is off the charts. I'm still having trouble with color fidelity and can't afford a better camera, so let me just tell you that the color is as new and there's an irridescent sheen around the head and feathers. There is one medium sized and several small oxidiation spots on the obverse, the reverse is totally clean. I'm aware that this is one year that has known counterfeits. All of the online research I've been able to do indicates that this is real (but it seems too good to be true). By the current Red Book the coin *seems* to be MS-63 or better, but what do I know? I value your opinions and would like your input. Also, if anyone knows methods for spotting fakes other than typestyle, curvature and feather location, please fill me in. Thanks a 10E06! P.S. The details look close to a MS62 or 63. One question though, what's that crud on the obverse 3 o'clock?
Not really, a quick soak can be used. I would personally treat the verdigris with some verdi-care product. You can find the stuff online and it's reasonably priced.
