Man, how great would it be to own one of these transitional patterns. There were several types made during the time the US government decided to change over from large cents to small cents due to the rise in copper during that time. Here's a current auction of one of those patterns, and Rick Snow has a number of them on his site for the flying eagle/indian head transitional patterns. Really neat stuff and a big part of history as the US mint plays around with designs, metal compositions, and sizes!

    Beautiful.

I love pattern coins, so many beautiful & interesting designs that could have been. Some of the designs picked have made me scratch my head over my years of collecting. Its a shame patterns are so darn expensive. :(

That is a nice one, as well as the price!

I would have to say that these patterns would make an interesting set if it wasn't for the fact there was only a handful of them in existence.

I owned this pattern at one point but traded it. The pattern market is very slow right now and it would be a good opportunity to pick one up at auction for cheap.
