I have a bag full of coins from other countries that I inherited. They are all around 1980's. I don't think there is much value and was wonder where or if I exchanged them for our currency. Just don't know where to go. Any web sites would be appreciated.
You have two problems. First, banks in your country (judging from what you wrote, I guess you are outside the euro area) will not exchange pre-euro currency, and certainly not coins. The other issue is that, for the pre-euro cash from some countries, the redemption period is over anyway - that is, even the central bank of that country would not take it any more. * The pre-euro coins from the following countries cannot be redeemed any more: Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal. * The pre-euro notes from the following countries cannot be redeemed any more: Finland, France, Greece, Italy. So unless you have a lot of coins from a country that still redeems the older money, and can "invest" quite a bit of time, your best bet (in my opinion) is to try and sell the bag to a dealer. This way you would not get much though. Or, and this is the better way if you have the time, go through the bag, and look for pieces that are well preserved. Also, if you come across anything that could be silver, make sure it actually is. Then try to sell those "special" pieces on, say, eBay ... Christian
