I happened to watch this episode of the long-running American NBC television serial ("soap opera") "Days of our Lives" which had a sub-plot involving an old gold coin. I had to add the story to my "Coins in Movies" website, and fortunately I had taped the episode. The title was: "John and Hope pull a clever trick on Stefano" John Black (Drake Hogestyn) is a former priest. Hope Williams (Kristian Alfonso) has an alternate personality as "Princess Gina". Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) is a wizard or magician who is a master manipulator. From the show's website: John and Hope open the Anastasia egg and discover a golden coin which has a code engraved into it. They try to break the code but are unsuccessful. They decide to keep the coin as insurance in case Stefano tries to double-cross them. In its place, John creates a replica coin. They call Stefano to the hotel, where he inspects the egg. Satisfied, he allows "The Pawn" and "Princess Gina" to run off and live happily ever after. John and Hope rush to the airport where they anxiously await a flight to Salem. The "coin" appeared to be an almost blank half of a coin, about the size of a US silver dollar. This plot was probably inspired by Dan Brown's 2003 best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code, with priests and secret codes. John and Hope with their fake coin Stefano holds the Anastasia Egg and the coin "Days of our Lives" NBC website: http://www.nbc.com/days-of-our-lives
Willie, you really should get out more. :smile (About the only valid excuse for a grown man to be watching 'Days of Our Lives' would be if you were confined due to a broken leg and you could not reach the remote.) Anyway, that was a cool thing to run across to add to your site.
I don't usually watch the show, and I am not usually at home when it shows, 1:00pm local time. I saw a description of the episode plot just before it started. The description mentioned "gold coin" and I set my TV recorder to tape it, to see how interesting it would be.
I enjoyed the movie & TV coins list on your Website Hello Willieboyd2, I enjoyed the movie & TV coins list on your Website. I didn't see a couple famous TV coin shows on the list. One is the Hawaii 5-0 episode with the 1913 nickel. The other is an I Love Lucy episode where Lucy & Ethel roll search & find a good penny which accidentally gets lost before they can cash-in. I hope I'm not the only one that remembers those TV shows. Also, in the movie Troy with Brad Pitt, they put gold coins on the eyes of the deceased prince. However, I don't think that there were many real coins circulating in the days of Troy. The only coins 5,000 years ago are in Hollywood's imagination.
I have the TV turned on because of Tornado watches and Days of Our Life is on. I heard "gold coin" a few times already. If it's anything like when my mom used to watch it, that storyline will be going on for atleast a month lol.
You are correct, sir! The Trojan War was fought around 1250 BC or 1190 BC. The first coins were made in Lydia around 650 BC. Hollywood should hire me for things like this.
