I havn't logged on in the longest time due to life, but I am still an avid collector. What should I invest in: Certified coins or bulk silver? (I have around $400 to spend)
Collectors will tell you to buy individual coins, and bullion people will tell you to buy bulk silver. Honestly I do a little of both (Got myself about 20 MS69 JFK's and 5 lbs of 90% silver a few weeks ago).
I would recommend Engelhard 10oz. Bars as an investment. I have always bought and sold these and can't wait until I can start buying again for $100 or less... if I can. Just my two cents. Ben
I agree with coindude, a little of both. You need to aquire some of both and decide which one you like better. Personally i'm a bigger fan of certs, and recently parted with most of my bulk silver in a trade.
buy something you like.....even if its just one coin. Don't Invest it in something you don't like as you could lose your money big time and then have something you don't like but have. If you are working on sets maybe get a Key Date....you could get a pretty nice 1895-S or such Morgan Dollar...... Speedy
Thanks...I am going to get some early seated & bust silver...wgich I want since I don't have many coins from before 1850
Or maybe I will look for some newer silver near melt value....always interesting to see what you can find.
The prices for coins with significant numismatic value seem a bit high to me these days. Silver prices are probably still fairly low compared to what they will be in the future. If you have a way to buy and sell silver at reasonably small bid-ask spreads, I'd go that route. But this is a guess.
I know what I’d buy but that won’t help you. When it comes to investing in a hobby my brother said it best. “I’d rather be happy than right”
You must be aware that asking a question like that is like asking which car is better, what brand of shoe is better, who makes the best bread, where should I go on my vacation, etc. The best thing to do is do what you want to do. Go to coin shows and look around. Go to dealers and coin stores and look around. then again you could buy $400 worth of lottery tickets, not win a thing and never have to worry about what to do with your money again.
