PMD or NOT? What do you think.. 1943 Steel

Hi, I have a 1943 steel that is in pretty good shape. I know they are not really worth a lot, but are nice to have apart of a collection as I know I do. My question is concerning errors/double dies. On this coin the last "T" in the word trust has an imprint right to the left. The imprint is very smooth, clean and seems to have no evidence of it being caused by PMD dent (no tool marks, no roughness). See photo... Not sure what to make of it. Any insight would be great! THANKS :)

Possible die chip? If I'm wrong (and I usually am :)) someone will chime in......

Thanks...These are just so hard to tell. I'll probably take a few more photo's with more lighting to help see the edge of the imprint a little better.

Welcome Frankster! Not all new members read the rules, so it's not just you.

    Forum rule #4.

    http://www.cointalk.com/t34131/

    4 – Multiple posts and/or threads.

If you have a question, please, first consider the appropriate section of the forum to place your question. If you don’t know, that’s fine, just the pick the one you think is best. However, it is only necessary to ask your question or make your comment ONCE ! Please do not make multiple posts or threads on the same subject, even if they are in different areas or forum sections. Somebody will see your question or comment no matter where you put it and provide an answer if they can. I have yet to ever see a question that could not be answered by somebody on Coin Talk.

And please, use some patience. Not everybody is on-line every minute of the day. Usually a question will be answered within a few hours at most. But if your question is not answered immediately, be patient. Some members only visit the site every few days.

Sorry if this bothers you. I am new to coin collecting and new to forums. Wasn't sure if I posted in the best category or not. Wasn't really asking about the value and I then saw this about errors. Do you have any real insight about my coin or are u just out to be a funny guy?

See post #5. One of the forum moderators would have told you when they read the thread. Just trying to be helpful. :)

Thank you mackwork. I was talking to taxidermist in my last post. I really apreciate your help. Was looking for insight on my coin. Not many dealers in my area. So I started to try a forum. Just didnt appreciate what taxidermist had to say. i guess thats to be expected on forums.

Well, in defense of taxidermist, don't take anything anyone says online personal. Words on a computer screen do not express emotion and I see taxidermist's response as being more sarcastic and informative than anything else, not an attack towards you.

    Cheers :thumb:

Hang in there & maybe you'll get more replies. I'm no expert on these things, but since that mark is incuse (pressed into the coin) the most logical answer is the one you got in the other thread - post mint damage (PMD) - damage after it was minted. I agree it's it a strange place with no other damage near it, so the exact cause (PMD or not PMD) may never be known. If multiple coins were found with the same mark it would probably be called a true mint error.

That mark's incused? I took it to be raised.....

    I accept your apologies.

Whoever could tell if its an error, could also estimate the price. Whoever could tell you the price, would definitely know if its an error. So, yeah, no point opening 2 identical threads. As it has been explained, you should open 1 thread and wait for answers. I am doing my best to act according to this forum rules, shouldn't you?

Yes, I am a funny guy, there are A LOT of us on the internets, expect us.

    Yes, it is incused.

Cazkaboom One for all, all for me.

Because it is incused, it probably just took a hit.

It was determined to be incuse (sunken) in the other thread:

    http://www.cointalk.com/t204303/

It's a great forum to learn! As you can now see from green18's question, when you start multiple threads the replies and information aren't all in one place.

I believe it to be PMD however I'm no expert in errors and couldn't for the life of me tell you what caused it or how it happened.

I see. Thanks for the help and for a great attitude. I just recently found that I love collecting wheat pennies, but I do not no a whole lot. I have learned about key dates and it is fun looking for them. It's good having a place to go when your not sure about a coin. The dealers around me are more like pawn shops who are looking for the best deal for them and not really to help anyone else. I really appreciate the help learning the ropes. I have other coins that I could use some in put on. Hopefully they catch your interest.

    Thanks again :)
