Ok this might sound very stupid. Actually I'm almost certain that this is completely rediculous, but I've got a question about fantasy pieces. What about taking lady liberty and making coinage of her doing different activities; such as playing golf? Reading a book? Driving a Corvette? Do you get where I am going with this? Lady Liberty could be used in a commem to display any of our jobs or hobbies? Completely stupid? Any ideas?

I'd like to see Lady Liberty just present on coins again.

Yeah, a good representation of America (nowadays) would be Lady Liberty (sorta chunky too) getting a burger, large fries and diet coke at McDonald's in the drive through. ;)

Perhaps just Lady Liberty standing tall and pretty is a better idea!

There is a bit of irony here --Liberty, fantasy?

There's nothing wrong with your idea. I'd
like to see Miss Liberty represented as
    Dagny Taggart driving a Roadrunner.

I just bought a fantasy coin- the 7 Euro from
    the Grape Growers Cooperative of
Viinamarisaar. It even has a small clip that
    partially reformed.

What's the question? I have no idea where you are going with this, besides soliciting more ideas of Lady Liberty in various representative scenarios. Go back and re-read what you just wrote and ask yourself, what is your question? If it's, "Hey guys, do I have an imagination?" then it seems you may, but to what extent you are applying it and questioning it, remains an undefined mystery on a pointless thread to this point.

    Bingo!

  10. I think if you conducted a poll on CT many would favor more Lady Liberty representation on coins. However, as far as the "fantasy" pieces you suggest, I think many would also feel this could be overexposure (too much of a good thing) and in some cases may even be disrespectful of the Lady Liberty image. I have to admit when you asked about representations of Liberty doing different things, I thought of the 19th century equivalent of the hobo nickel, the Potty dollars.

Miss Liberty refreshes by filling the bowl
    with tyrants.

    Take lots of fiber now.

in my opinion its not that it would be completely stupid as much as it would completely cheapen the lady liberty design and symbol which is held as sacred by many people out there....to put her doing something as mundane as driving a car would damage her esteem something fierce....it'd be like the UK putting the queen playing x-box on the back of a coin....not gonna happen my friend....way to think out of the box though, for that you can have some credit

Exactly! Someone should make a thread with a poll. Who wants the job, as I don't have a clue how?

Edit: I forgot to say a poll about having liberty on coins again or not...

Man liberty is tired. She needs a vacation. I'm thinking take the sun off the walking half and per her on a nice beach with some flip flops. Make it a nice fantasy piece.

she had a 100+ year vacation on the cent, 66 year vacation on the dime, and 99 (74 with jefferson and 25 with an indian) year vacation on the nickel. time to bring her back and let the dead presidents sleep.

IMO, putting liberty back on a Nickel is like Jordan coming out of retirement to play for the Wizards. The last time lady liberty was on the nickel was the 1913: it doesn't get any better than that. Let's leave Tom alone, he has been a phenomenal guardian of the denomination for almost 3 quarters of a century.

keeping tom there won't let him rest in peace. being president is hard. he needs his rest. let's bring back liberty, and while we're at it, we can summon justice, equality, and many of the other ideals tom stood for 200+ years ago.

I agree with the symbolism, but Langston Hughes might not.
