people seemed to miss the point on that post.....or maybe i did.....i don't think the op was saying that his dad bought those coins and gave them to him....he is just saying that his dad bought them and is holding on to them hoping they appreciate......i always watch that sleeze on HSN talk about his coins and laugh....i don't know how that guy sleeps at night knowing he is just ripping people off who don't know better....what a jerk!
South Park, Season 16, Episode 2 "Cash For Gold" - it is like whoever created this episode read this thread
I think the keyword is gold and silver plated and your father didn't pay too much for them so he wasn't exactly robbed.
Crazy you bring that up ...... that coin is what led to him breaking out these quarters. I was explaining to my mom why I had 30a rolls of dimes laying on my desk when she stopped to take the kids for the day. She daid she wanted me to check out some things she's been holding onto some time. When I got there later to pick up the girls she got into her purse. And pulled out a little change purse and got the shuttle coin out first. Of about 35 coins she carried in the little coin purse That one was the only one she kept because she thought it was valuable. The rest she just "liked". She had no idea 3 of the dimes she had were silver When I was showing her info on the shuttle coin on my phone is when my dad went to grab the quarters you are correct
While those Marshall island coins and similar ones are not worth a killing they are worth 5-15 bucks each depending on exactly which one. So if you find them for a buck or two its not bad imo. Plus they do look pretty nice.
Anybody want to go into business with me selling coins on tv at collector prices, using real grading services and driving these other guys out of business. Or at least get them to stop ripping people off.
Well personally I think you should tell your father about the value of the coins. He may end up buying more in the future if you don't. And remember teaching goes both ways, from parents to children and from children to parents.
yea im probably going to tell him tomorow. im just afraid he'll be so dissapointed it'll put him off from coins and pm's all together. i think this is the first he's bought coins in about 15 years. maybe its a blessing in disguise... i do owe him some silver and this would probably be a good time to pay up. getting some silver would probably soften the blow and get him into it again. we've all seen signatures on forums that say something like "lord when i die please dont let my wife sell my stuff for what i told her i paid for it" mine should be "lord please dont let my teenage children spend my silver collection on beer AT FACE VALUE!!!!" yes sadly as a teen i bought a weekends worth of beer for me and my buddy with silver quarters, halves, and dollars. in my defense i didnt know the quarters and halves were silver untill a year later when he confronted me about it... now would probably be the best time to start repaying that
Outlaw I've mentioned this before, but when I was a teenager I blew 3+ dollars in Mercury Dimes on Taco Bell. Atleast you spent your silver on something that was crucial for survival. =0
that was cheap compared to my screw up. cant remember exactly but it was either $21 or $27 face value of silver dollars, halves, and quarters. isnt the equation something like 0.715 troy oz of ASW per $1 face value of pre 64 90% silver coins? if im figuring right that's 14.5-20.8 oz of silver lol
No, because you will go broke and go out of business. Unless you have a good source for buying good coins from little old ladies for pennies on the dollar. There is a reason the TV people charge so much for the coins. The overhead is a killer. The TV people are selling those coins at two to four times retail, and probably just making standard dealer mark up after expenses.
on this crazy subject one time at fred myer (grocery type store) i paid for my stuff thru those machines that don't require you interacting with an actual human being.....when my change came out of the machine i received two of these gold plated quarters with my change.....i had never heard of them but once i looked them up i decided that somebody's angry girlfriend probably used them to buy something at the store and then i got them in change.....they weren't anything i was into saving so i gave them to my 5 year old nephew who put them in his toy pirate chest and has saved them as his golden "pirate booty" coins.....hopefully years from now he can say thats how he started his collection.
Makes sense. Snip his phone line, steal his credit card and his checkbook and cancel his internet service............. but don't tell him!:rollling:
For that kinda money you could take a bus to Mexico, Edited get as much tacos as your heart desires. Snapsalot, please read the rules and think about appropriateness before posting. Thanks
