The 10c. is going to be a copper-coloured coin.It is the 5c. coin that will no longer be struck. Aidan.
I love the way they ( NZ Bank) just tell the people..we will no longer be making the 5 cent coin and oh yeah, your old coins will no longer be legal tender....if the US Govt. had any cojones, they'd do the same starting with the cent!!!! and if I was in charge,as well I should be,the dollar bill would be next on the chopping block. No more problem trying to ram dollar coins down the public's throat because there would be no option..hehehe..*evil chuckle*
Seems pretty odd Aidan... Here in India, we can find even the 1950 coins in circulation at present also. The Government issues no such deadline. But there are some smaller denominations which ceased to be legal tender. Just now denomination from 5 paise onwards are legal tender here. But its been a long time since I see even a 25 Paise in circulation. In actual practice, the smallest denomination in circulation in India is a 50 Paise coin. Even the beggers dont accept 25 Paise coins (I am not exaggerating)!!
Nothing odd about it they have just decided to remove certain coins from circulation did the same over here in the UK with the 1/2p and a number of other countries have also done so with low denomination coins, it woudnt suprise me if the EU gets rid of its 1c shortly either. De Orc
Would be fine with me. Actually in Finland they are not really used anyway since (for cash payments) final amounts are rounded to x.y0 or x.y5 - whichever is closer. Basically the same thing is done by most stores in the Netherlands. If only the other euro countries followed that example ... The new sizes of the NZ coins seem reasonable to me. I also like the Spanish Flower design. Guess that operators of older vending machines (those with different slots for different denominations) will not be happy about the size/weight change. Other than that, good. Christian
Odd to find old Indian coins in change. Biju,it seems strange to me that you'd get the old pre-decimal Indian coins in change. No doubt, you'd get the 1/4 Rupee (4 Annas) as change for a 25 Paise,& the 1/2 Rupee (8 Annas) as change for a 50 Paise coin.No doubt, you'd check your change for any collectable coins such as the Jawaharlal Nehru memorial & Mahatma Gandhi birth centenary commemrative coins in change.Of course, there are also commemorative Indian banknotes as well. Aidan.
Aidan, you wont believe it... but its true.. I usually collect these coins for exchange by searching from the heaps in a bank or a super market.. :goofer:
I have seen a set of the new coins. The copper-coloured 10c. is about the same size as a U.S. nickel. The 20c. is about the same size as the 20 Euro-Cents,& the 50c. is about the same size as an American quarter. Aidan.
For some reason, there are no good pics of the new NZ coins on the official RBNZ website but I found this...they look nice! The new coins are the bottom 3,the top ones are discontinued.
Now why do these look so suspiciously similar to the ones shown on the page that Aidan mentioned in the initial message? Larger images with more details (specifications) are here by the way: http://www.newcoins.govt.nz/2491272.pdf Christian
From what I have seen of the new coins,I will get to like the new 20c. & 50c. coins.I'm not yet sure about the 10c. piece though. A collectors' set was recently released with both old & new coins in it by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. There were around 5,000 sets,& they have all been sold out. Aidan.
New NZ coins Hi folks: I heard that the Royal Canadian Mint in Canada here is making those new New Zealand Coins for New Zealand. We have the new Nickel or Copper Bonded Steel process of making coins here, and I guess New Zealand was interested in having their new coins in the same alloy. Talk to you all later! fiftypee :smile
i've got some nice silver old ones nice and shiney, i don't kno if the change is a bad sign or not but, all coins change eventually..
