I apologize for being awfully chatty today, but need some questions answered. I use pcgs photograde to grade a few of my coins, but I have some that the site does not cover. So what is a good book to purchase that is good about how to grade coins? I like the looks of this book but if anyone thinks there is a better choice let me know. http://www.amazon.com/Official-American-Numismatic-Association-Standards/dp/0794819931
This is one of the best books on general grading I have found. PCGS OFFICIAL GUIDE TO COIN GRADING AND COUNTERFEIT DETECTION
That one will teach more about grading than any other book I know of, and I've read them all. I also recommend the PCGS book already mentioned. But even PCGS doesn't follow it much anymore, but there is still some good stuff in there. You also read and use this one, it's free - http://www.coingrading.com/ My opinion the best advice is to get and read them all. But you can't learn how to accurately grade coins just from books. You have to look at and study thousands and thousands of coins in hand, and that goes for each individual series.
I have the 1st edition of the PCGS one, I wonder if their grading standards changed between the 2nd edition
Probably, i think its over 5 years inbetween. The only reason i say this is because of the green slab (OGH) desirability.
I use this everyday. Love it! http://www.amosadvantage.com/scottonline/product.asp?tab=coin&part%5Fno=CNW109E2&category=CNWGG
