I currently have two proof American Eagles; one from 1991 (S) and the other from 1996 (P). All right, what's the question: Do any of you know if they produced these proofs at different mints over the course of production from 1986 to present? What I mean is, did they make the proofs at San Francisco and Philadelphia? If they did, what were the dates for the different mints?:eat: I am just starting to get into completing this set. I hope it is complete by the time I graduate college!!! Any and all help is great, Thanks.
Assuming you're referring to the silver ones. From 1986 to 1992 they minted the proofs in San Francisco; From 1993 to 2000 they minted the proofs in Philadelphia (however in 1995 there is also a proof that came in the 10th anniversary set minted in West Point; this is the rarest one in the series, only 30,125 were minted); 2001 to the present they were minted in West Point. From 1986 to 1999 the uncirculated ones were minted in Philadelphia with no mint mark. From 2000 to the present the uncirculated ones were minted in West Point with no mint mark.

Either the Whitman Red Book is wrong (what I was going by) or that site you posted is, lol, anyone have confirmation? According to the Whitman Red Book, from 2003 to 2005 the proofs were minted in Philadelphia. Edit: Well if www.coinfacts.com breaks the tie... the red book is wrong... it shows the proofs from 2001 to the present as being minted in West Point. Corrected my post.
I actually own these proofs so I went and took a look,they're West Point...not sure what the Red Book boys were smokin' LOL
Well wouldn't be the first mistake they've ever made, though they seem to be accurate most of the time. Though wonder why they decided to jump to Philadelphia and back with the proofs out of nowhere; if anything you'd think they would assume they'd stay in the same place until a marked change comes up. Hope they correct it in the next edition, lol...
Lets correct another error, mintage of the 1995-W proof was 30,125. Probably because once the silver proof sets were added to the production at San Francisco in 1992 they found that their production capacity was being stretched. So the Proof Eagles were moved to Philadelphia. Then in 2000 they began consolidating all the bullion coinage at West Point, both Unc and Proof.
What I meant was why Red Book (2006 edition) decided to print that proofs in 2003 to 2005 were minted in Philadelphia. Seemed an odd mistake to make, and was wondering what made them think it was accurate. That is what I was going by initially but after checking other sources realized they made a mistake. Uncirculated silver eagles were moved to West Point in 2000 (but still without a mint mark) but the proofs weren't moved there until 2001. The gold proof eagles were moved there in 1994 (1986 to 1993 Philadelphia minted the proofs). Platinum proof eagles have always been minted at West Point since they started minting them in 1997. Was looking at the wrong number, lol... $5,000 was the value the 2006 Red Book had for the 10th anniversary set, not the mintage (the 1995-W proof by itself has a value of about $3,500, according to 2006 Red Book.). Corrected that. Those values probably higher by now.
