I just finished a box of halves (skunk) and a box of dimes (2 canadians (1940 & 1956) both silver). First silver in the past month.

Dumping my coins today and when they pulled out the coin counter to change the halves bag I saw the obverse of a Peace dollar staring at me from the top of the counter. It's my first Peace find. 1926. Totally amped!

A question for those searhing nickels. I found a lot of pre-1950 coins. Are those worth keeping, other than war nickels?

I keep anything pre-1960 that has a mint of lower than 50 Million. If you are interested in holding onto some pre-1950s I would hold any 1938's you come across, and the 39-d, and 39-s for sure. There are some other lower mints you mint want to consider holding as well. Check the red book, or google Jefferson Nickel mints and you should be able to find the exact mintages for the Jefferson series pre-1950.

Well I got some cool stuff in change this week. First I recieved a 1940 Jefferson not bad looking coin. Than yesterday i was in the grocery store and walked by the coinstar machine and I noticed a coin aboned in the clean out tray. It was a nice 1943 S Lincoln Cent. You don't find them everyday.

It all depends on what you're into and how advanced you are as a collector. I've got enough common Jeffersons saved up that I am now selective in what I keep. I will keep ~any~ pre-1960 nickels if they are in high-grade of condition. Otherwise I only keep them if their mintage is from around 20 million or less. I went through $60 in nickels the other day and found 19 from before 1960. I logged the dates in my stats and only kept two out of the lot, a 1947S and 1948S. Both are in nice condition and 1948S is a better date that can be difficult to find. While cool to find because they are old, I'm not going to lock up resources by hoarding every common 1940P and 1958D nickel in circulated condition that I come across.

Went to a bank a bit north of me (on a street with about 20 banks in a 1 mile span, but I'm pretty sure it's someone else's turf) and one teller had $75 in Ikes, and another had $60. A ton of 1972s but none were type 2, meh.

I'm up to like $250 in Ikes now. I've been keeping them to sell eventually, but I somehow don't see that happening until my Ike hoarding gets out of control.

Anyone got any pointers as to what to do with all these?

    Weekly results:

    Boxes:
    Halves (2): 40% x16 (yay finally!)
    Quarters (1): Skunk
    Dimes (4): Roosie x6, Merc x1
    Nickels (3): War x6, 1935 Buffalo

Finally lucked out and got my first good halves box! Sadly, halves are incredibly competetive around here so I'm prepared to not luck out again for a while... I think I need to try out a new branch and see if I can tap into a different supplier's halves.

    Rolls:
    Quarters (48): Skunk
    Dimes (100): Roosie x3
    Nickels (62): Skunk
    Pennies (72): Wheat x24
Got 136 Ikes this week too as I mentioned earlier... I really dunno why I'm hoarding these things lol

All in all a great week, a bit over 3 ounces. I noticed a lot less wheat cents this week and I tried to mix it up with a few different chains... probably just a phase. I contemplated starting to get another penny box but I think I've reached the limit of how much I can feasibly search in a week and not jeopardize my relationship/job or get cut off from a bank, lol... and pennies are probably my least favorite thing to search lately anyway. As expected I'm back to skunking on quarters too, it really feels like these are basically dead :(

Foreign finds this week: $3.03 Canada, 5c Bermuda, 1.5L UK, 1/2 fr and 20c Switzerland, 10c Panama, 5c Bahamas, 1c East Caribbean Dollar, 1pta Spain, and some 50c coin from the Middle East

This week I ran out of latex gloves, so I've been just washing my hands a lot... they're splitting and cracking like crazy. Someone should invent a thin, durable, washable, and reusable set of Coin Hunting Gloves.

    Box of halves: 1 40%er, a 2002 S clad proof, and 4 NIFC's, including the first 2011 I've seen.

I'm always so disappointed when the only silver I find is in the first few rolls. It gives me such high hopes for the rest of the box, then I'm let down. Better than nothing, though!
