Does anyone know what the 3 marks east of the designer's initials are?

They are on several on my Peace Dollars in different locations on Obverse and/or Reverse sides... They seem to show in a string of 2 or 3 marks with a line at its base connecting them.

Does anyone know what these marks are, how they were created, if post/pre die markings? Thanks much, Dan

Looks like the edge of another coin hit it. Are these marks raised or pressed into the coin?

Thanks for your response - the three marks are exactly the same pattern & are pressed into the coin.

As Kirk said they are marks from another coin. The reeding of another coin actually.

Yep, these marks are the product of the reeding on another coin striking this one as it went into the hopper
