I'm glad I don't do ebay anymore. I had one guy say he never got the coins, and I had to refund 400 dollars despite being insured. I filed a claim through the post office, and they said I needed a signed letter from the individual stating he had never received the item. This sounded fishy to me, so I tried again with a different post office and they told me the same thing. Paypal wouldn't help me either because they are lame.

Btw, have any of you been required to submit a letter from the addressee to file your claims? I read their sheet they gave me and it didn't say anywhere that this was neccessary, except in the event of an uninsured package.

I've never had to do this, but as I've said I don't do ebay, as it's to easy to get scammed. I use ioffer.com, and I've never had a problem either buying, or selling. I've never had a negative rating, but on the other hand I don't live and die by the ratings either.

I haven't used Ebay in about a year. Stories like this only confirm my decision to discontinue the use of the site. My overall experiences were good, but there are just too many horror stories floating around to continue taking the risk of what seems to be inevitable disappointment through fraud or near fraud.

That is why a lot of folks use UPS to ship because they have a great insurance policy. You can use USPS but you need a copy of the EBAY listing to recieve the funds. I WILL NEVER GIVE A REFUND UNTIL they sign the paper from the post office then when I get paid they get paid. You know.

Yes, the post office does require this. I had to go through the process once myself. It has nothing to do with ebay by the way - the same rules apply for any insured package. In my case, I bought the coin from a dealer - it never showed up. After waiting several weeks for the coin to arrive I had the dealer filed a claim with the post office. The post office then required me to fill out several forms and write a letter stating that I had not received the coin.

The claim was approved, check was even sent. But on the day that I received my refund (3 months later), I also received the coin !! I sent them back the check.

Mistakes do happen. The post office does misplace packages. And they can show up even months later.

Very true, very true. I had a letter (electric bill) somehow fall out get under the seat of the rural carriers jeep once. A very long delivery time before it was discovered, and now we have a $120 dollar credit with the WREA, LOL...

It really upsets me that paypal sided with the buyer when he refused to help me file a claim. I was courteous through the whole manner as well, and it ended up costing me 400 dollars. I could buy some nice coins with that

Both parties are able to file a USPS ins claim, so what may have been an option is to have the buyer file the claim. I know that there are some sellers who state this in their auctions.

P.S. your paypal experience is one of the things that make PP a horror for sellers. PP is convenient, but it is extrememly likely that eventually it will be used to scam you (as a seller) if you accept it. If you sell on eBay frequently then there are better options (a merchant credit card account) for your business. For more horror stories than you can imagine visit www.paypalsucks.com
