This is fringe coin related but I just had to pass it along. I dabble some on Ebay both in a buying capacity 75% and as a seller 25%. A few months ago I gathered up several cull Roman coins and sold them in a 100 coin lot, didn't do too bad either. I received the payment via PayPal and sent the items out Priority Mail. A couple of days later I received an e-mail from the buyer wondering if I was going to post Positive FeedBack towards their account. I said once they receive the item and let me know they're satisfied is when I post FB.

Well time went by and I never heard from this individual again. About a month or so ago I was cleaning up my acct and was in the FB section. I saw this old FB due and thought I'd forgotten one so I went ahead and posted a positive.

Lo and Behold that very evening I get an e-mail from the buyer saying they never received the coins and what am I going to do about it? My response "Good thing my positive FB jogged your memory."

After going back and forth a few e-mails with the buyer I promptly placed a block on them and reminded the buyer about the lack of insurance (for the last time) and how it almost looked like they were trying to use feedback extortion as a way of getting both the coins and their money back.

Guess I was in a pretty foul mood at the time...

Delivery Confirmation with the USPS is a good method to determine the item has arrived. If you ship priority mail, parcel post or first class ( in the 1st class case the envelope has to be 3/4" thick ) you can use it for only 45 cents. You can then go on line with the confirmation number and find when it was delivered.

Whenever I sell, which isn't very often, I always require insurance. That way I guarantee my protection

I believe you did the right thing. Leaving them that positive feedback was a mistake , but all you did was try and do the right thing. I agree they are up to no good. Did you check their past feedbacks left by other sellers ? Anyone can say they didn't receve an item. Without insurance or proof of delivery it's their word against yours. Who knows , maybe you never sent the item out ? Ouch , I find that hard to believe. Welcome to " Another Nightmare on Ebay "

    Bone,
I myself try never to deal with ebay. To many people out there who love to screw others over. There are some smaller, but IMHO, better places to go with your sales activity. ebay is just too much of a monster with many heads. You were right to react the way you did.

No doubt it is. So did this guy give you negative feedback?
Also, a bit off topic here, but I notice some coin auctions without pictures.
I am having a heck of a time because I can't post pictures on e-bay.
Just wondering if I should try selling with no pics?

    Victor,
No offense intended, but as a buyer, I usually don't look at a sale item unless there is a picture. Not that the picture proves anything if the seller is unscrupulous.
When you say you can't post pictures on ebay, is this for a lack of equipment (digital camera, scanner...), or from a lact of knowledge as to how to do it? Again, no offense, but I know people who's only skill with a computer is turning it on...;-)

No negative and the three month time limit expired, so it's a dead issue now. As far as a buyer not being able to post feedback against someone who blocked them I don't know. Never have tried it. I did provide them a scan of the receipt for mailing the item after being accused of not mailing it. But it all boils down to the fact they waited until I'd posted PFB (2 1/2 months latyer), they currently are NARU'd so...

    Fred,
Thanks. It's a long story. I do have Kodak easy share. Currently it is uninstalled due to extremely SLOW startup time.
I sold hundreds of dollars worth of turbo Dodge parts on e-bay posting pics no problem.
Then my computer crashed due to me deleting an important registry key.
A geek fixed it by stripping the hard drive and adding back programs. He added 3 antispyware programs which I use and like.
And he added Norton antivirus which I had already.
Now e-bay won't take the pictures at all. And the Kodak doesn't help. The help archives include no e-bay tips.

That means that ebay kicked them out of the pool for not playing nice or they bolted for one reason or another.

It's a MINIMUM of 90 days to leave feedback. Many auctions hang around the eBay system a lot longer than that.

    Victor,
If you're looking to sell coins, and such, you may want to try Ioffer.com. That's what I use, and you basically get your own website to post pictures, and conduct business.
    As an example here's mine...

edited - sorry Fred, but links to personal sales sites are not permitted in this area of the forum

At least you can see what it's like.
