Hi, Can anyone give me their opinion on this 3-cent? Is it cleaned, grade in PCGS and what is the most I should pay for it. Thanks Scott http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330003404373&fromMakeTrack=true
Thanks for the info. Here is another one. http://cgi.ebay.com/1860-3-Cent-Sil...08QQihZ016QQcategoryZ3356QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
HI Scott And welcome to to the forum ,I did not see the pcgs holder how do you no it is graded by them ?
He doesn't - he is asking what we think PCGS would grade them. But to answer your question scottyb, I would not buy the first coin at all. As to the second, I would not buy it either unless it was already graded and authenticated by NGC, PCGS or ICG.
Not being stupid in the least - it was quite easy to misread that because of the way it was worded. I had to read it a couple of times myself.
What worries me the most is that the obverse photo has oviously been photoshopped to lighten the image. WHY?! the 2 pics are taken against the same color background, but the obverse was lightened, what are they hiding? I agree, stay away. It may be a nice coin (the reverse toning looks ok) but I'm seeing red flags on that one.
The 1852 doesn't look too bad. It may be cleaned, but long ago. Reverse looks like it's naturally toned. The other one looks better, but I'd want it graded first, too expensive not to.
I think the 1st one is OK, enough to give it an AU grade. The diamond on reverse is detailed, little wear on Roman numerals. As for the front I have no idea why they brightened it. It appears to have some toning to UNI on obverse. I do that from time to time though with photoshop to achieve the best pic for you guys. Sometimes a regular pic doesn't do the coin justice so we play with the contrast to "bring out" things otherwise not seen. BUT as Cave Troll said they could be hiding something. Mintage was over 18,600,000 so I wouldn't go any higher than 20 bucks. And of course I would not spend $600 on a coin, on Ebay, NOT in a holder graded by NGC, PCGS, ANACS or IGC!!!!!
