Hello. I have a 1944 D penny which looks to be slanted. Is this an error?

    Thanks for looking!

Try to crop the picture before attaching it.

What do you mean by slanted, like the off center obverse in the picture? If the reverse looks normal, that's just a misaligned die, these usually bring no extra value.

Or if just the "D" is slanted, that's not an error either. Mint marks were hand punched with little regard for exact placement. Try taking a close-up of your coin and cropping out the background.

No offense but microscopic photos like yours that require a lot of effort to enlarge the photos to a size where we can actually see the coin sometimes attract less good responses than good photos that require no additional effort. I chose not to try to enlarge this tiny photo.

I agree - a larger, cropped picture would sure help. With that said I enlarged it and can't see anything unusual about the coin.

    Hopefully, this scan is better...

Hopefully this scan is better.. in the pic there is a tiny white thing below the date.. this white speck is not on the coin. Came across on the scan. Did they hand punch dies in 1944?
