Going though our bin of dollars today I came across this Morgan, she looked so sad & pitiful . Sitting there looking up at me with a thick sludge of greenish PVC covering her entire obverse & reverse. I felt compelled to help her out. I could see the luster trying to escape so I went to work on conserving her. Not a gem coin but still worthy of a reprisal. Here are a few pics of the process & final result. There are a few specks of PVC left in the denticals that Ill have to coax out still. Enjoy-
Are you sure that was PVC damage. The color doesn't look right. Did it feel slimy to the touch? Chris
Looking at the first picture feels like watching a horror movie. You did a fine job cleaning up the slime.
I just used acetone, Q-tips & wood toothpicks. A nice soak in the acetone & some gentle removal with Q-tips . Final touch up in the hard to get areas with the tip of a split toothpicks & more acetone.
You did a great job man. The evil part of me wonders how much this might have sold for on Ebay as a "monster toner". Before I get hit on the back of the head from a spitball, (I am looking at you lehigh ), I am making fun of Ebay toned coin buyers, not your guys' coins.
