Hi i am new to collecting coins but i have been collecting Gemstones for a long time i was wondering if i should start my collection with these items.....
The seller has told me it is a 300ad ancient roman ring and that it is a unique ring- not much info was wondering if anyone knows what the letters stand for?

Sure but don't pay to much. I recently aquired one and they sell for typically $25 each for level of designs such as the ones you are showing.

many roman coins can be had for 50 cents each.

I suggest you get some of those first as they are a cheap introduction to ancient coins. Then after learning about the more rare and pricey ancient coins and their values you can make a informed purchase decision.

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

So often, we have newcomers to numismatics make mistakes in their purchases, i.e., pay too much, because they are too anxious to get started. It is wise to perform sufficient research by asking questions on a site like this and by searching the listings on eBay for "sold" items to avoid falling into these traps.

If the coin isn't worth $600, it's doubtful the ring is worth $400.

As do a lot of the Chinese counterfeiters selling on eBay, just so you know ;)

I think you got the best advice from snapsalot, re-read post# 6 :thumb:

Depends on what you're looking for really.

Try Heritage and Teletrade and see if they have something that interests you.

its not ebay you need to stay away from. Theres lots of great buys on Ebay. Its gaining knowledge about what you like before you plop down hundreds or even thousands on a coin. For instance if you had bought that ring and coin off that guy you would have spent 1000 dollars on 30 dollars of stuff.

This seller grossly overprices his stock. The ring kinda looks retooled but I can't say for certain, and you can find a nicer one for like $40 on vcoins.com or maybe numismall.com. Same with the coin, you can find a better example for less.

so i contacted the seller and told him the coin was not worth the price so he said he would sell it for $330 and that i was getting a great deal he told me some info for it

    "Antoninus Pius - Roman Emperor: 138-161 A.D.
    Bronze 27mm (6.46 grams) Year 13: 149-150 A.D.
    Reference: Koln 1639; Dattari 2753
AVT K T AIL ADP ANTONINOC, laureate, draped & cuirassed bust right.
TPICKAI IS, Nilus reclining left, holding reed & cornucopiae (from which emerges a genius); crocodile below to right."

seems like he did a copy and paste from wikipedia but i thought i would let you guys know why he thinks its worth that price.
