Very interesting! Thanks for posting this, Doug. I'm curious to know if they ever found the culprits in the theft of the dollars being transferred from the New Orleans Mint to Washington, D.C. Could it be that they were never produced to begin with and the lead-filled bags were necessary to cover up the embezzlement? Or, was it a conspiracy of Mint employees to steal the dollars and make it appear that the guards transporting them were to blame? Chris
