1793 Chain Cent on eBay

    Sure it's collusion, but absent a way to connect the two, not provable.

    If the gainsayers are right, and this is a deliberate peddling of a known fake, it's pretty clever, I must say.

    Well for one thing there are commercial products manufactured and sold with that exact purpose in mind.

    I have to admit I thought it was just an over corroded S-2 but after close comparison with the Royal Oak Mint copy (which is based on the S-2) I will have to agree that it is a fake. The positioning of a couple of the letters matches the ROM pieces but are slightly off for being an S-2.

    This is one method for some Robinhood type to protect the ignorant from themselves. By bidding this coin WAY beyond its percieved value this guy is assuring that someone unknowledgable doesn't get burned. BTW, if this auction had been completed then he wouldn't have paid, obviously.
