http://www.ebay.com/itm/M-AEMILIUS-...Ancient_RL&hash=item4cffa38664#ht_1373wt_1393 I just cannot believe the prices coins are going for on Ebay nowadays. Its just insane. I got one of these, much better centered, much better detailed, and a pretty tone for less than half of this from a large dealer not that long ago. Ebay just is becoming insane. Chris
Hmm private bidding so of the bids could be schills and plus he ships internationally cheap which often translates into another at least 20% price increase due to amount of international bidders in ebay these days.
I think that coin is shill city. Camelioncoins or however this person goes by I am trying to remember is another shiller. He started them out at .95 and over time bidders of 0-2 feedback bid and then when its near closing he lets regulars bid at the last day/seconds to get the price he wanted. I could have got a horned elagabalus for $33 but after I was seeing what this person was doing and viewing completed auctions, I knew it was a crap ebay seller. Needless to say that coin went for $83 all the while my vauction example in better shape was $65 all said and done.
It was just a shock I guess. I was wondering if there was some shilling or something going on. That is a popular type, but not scarce, and this one was not a very good example. Thanks for looking at it for me guys.
Maybe I got lucky or it is a different seller but I got this coin for $26 from "Cameleoncoins". I think that price is a super bargain considering it is a Delmatius in decent condition with the atlernate "Dalmatius" spelling, especially when you see what Delmatius coins in average condition sell for these days. -Kurt
To confirm whether it is shill or not add the item to one of your lists and see if the seller ever relists it (can't check for feedback since it is private).
I havent bought a RR on ebay ever due to that. I just wait till BBA lists one and try to grab it asap, lol. @Biancasdad, maybe he's changed his ways. This was about a year ago. I just avoid that dealer after that elagabalus incident. @Chris, M.AEMILIUS SCAURUS is pretty common and the funny thing is it isnt a type that I have a huge desire to own.
Fair enough. I love mine, and would consider buying another. I bought it to put with my Nabatean collection, but Doug's writeup of the importance of the type makes me want to buy another just to keep with the Romans.
I hear you Mat. I may have just gotten lucky as it is the only coin I ever bought from him/her. Also it was attributed incorrectly with the normal spelling which also likely helped me sneak in the back door on that particular auction. My list of sellers to avoid is growing.:rollling: -Kurt
