I do not see alot of East Africa coins. Are they harder to find than some contries? I do have this one and love the detail and the design
they are not that hard to find and are often found in bargain bins over here in the uk but, perhaps on your side of the world they are much scarcer
I find them quite often here in Minnesota. Lots of the cent coins with holes in them (in BU) are not uncommon here at coins shows. I will pick up pretty much anything that's copper and in shiny BU condition, and East Africa, South Africa, and Rhodesia are some of the nice ones I've found.
I would say they are relatively rare than modern day states, but not scarce. They are cool though. I like all of those "extinct" countries and coin issuing authorities.
I am in Ontario Canada.. smaller city and have not seen many here.. thanks for the input folks it is much appreciated.
I've got a few that I bought out of the bargain bins at the shows. Most of mine date from the 1920's. Cheap but beautiful.
I have found many of the East Africa coins in AU and BU condition at the Long Beach coin show here in California. Perhaps you will just find more world coin vendors at the larger shows. Also, there is a big selection on eBay.
It's funny how often people post a topic on something I just purchased. I bought a group of six British East Africa coins yesterday on eBay for $4. I think they're neat. The catalog values are pretty low but collect what you like. I don't really see a lot of them at my local dealer. I was watching a 1942 50 cent like the one above on eBay and it ended up selling for more than $7, even though the book value is much lower. I think that was just an aberration though.
