do you use craigslist for buying/selling coins?

so far it has been my only means of buying and selling in this new found hobby. pick these up last night.

I have before yes, but the action on it is very timid. However I do find the occasional deal there.

Thats pretty crazy though how you found 6 bu morgans on it. What was your price you paid and are they real?

 

They look real, but dipped.

I do buy and sell on craigslist.

I do quite a bit of business on craigslist, coins and otherwise.

In general, just don't be an idiot, and you'll do ok.

 

i paid 33/each. i suspected they might have been dipped, but at 8 over spot i wasnt complaining.

 

I have never bought anything on craiglist due to security fear. Its great for people who do but for my peace of mind, I avoid it.

Nice additions though.

 

i took these two unc morgans right out of bank rolls that had been sitting in a box for god knows how long.

 

I am worried about another Craigslist Killer.. I avoid it.. lol

 

Craigslist Dealings

Craigslist is the best place I've found to buy/sell, as long as your prices are market realistic. If you expect eBay sell pricing, and dealer "bid" buy pricing, as most seem to want, business will be "very timid".

I sell rolls of "uncirculated" Silver dollars on craigslist at less than $33/coin, other Silver at less than melt, and buyers travel an appreciable distance to a remote secure location.

I even bring coin specifications, an electronic scale, rare earth magnet, 10x inspection loupe, and a vernier caliper for unprepared buyers.

I loan fair market money against previous purchases, will repurchase at a fair market price, and have many satisfied return customers. :thumb:

There are ways to be safe when dealing with selling or buying from craigslist.com.

Always meet in a public place you are comfortable with, like a coffee shop, grocery store, etc.

Insist on cash only payment, if you are selling. If you are buying, only take the amount of cash with you to make the purchase. Never take more than that.

Try to get there before the person you're meeting. Make note of the vehicle they're driving or riding in, color, make, model, license plate number, etc.

If more than one person is with the person you're meeting, either leave without meeting the person, or if you have a contact number for that person call them and ask why they brought others with them.

I've never had a problem meeting buyers or sellers from craigslist.com.

 

You have left out perhaps the most important of all. The criminals will prey on someone who reads this list. They follow everything on this list and have a FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY. They complete the transaction, and they feel comfortable, and their guard is down. The criminal then follows them home, sometimes in a separate car. It is noted where the victim resides. Now, the victim's home can be monitored, and it can be noted when the victim tends not to be home.

You see, people that buy and sell a coin on Craigslist, tend to have additional coins located at their home.

 

In my area there is usually 0-2 gold or silver coins advertised at any given time. It would be rare to see more then 3 and I often see none. When I do see some most the time the person is asking 2-10 times what it is worth, or what they are selling is fake and they are either too dumb to realise it or are trying to pull a scam (I've seen so many gold plated coins that all together there probably was a oz of gold). In my previous area there was way more craigslist action for any and everything. I guess thats what happens when you move from a city with 8 million to a city with 200k.

 

Lol if someone wants to stalk and rob me they really need to pick a better target.

Not only is my collection meager compared to many other people, but I always have a loaded shotgun rdy for trouble .

Ive sold much bigger ticket items then coins off craigslist in the past and I think some of you fellas are being a little too paranoid.

I've never had anyone follow me home, and God help them if they did. I have quite the arsenal at home, aside from 2 12 gauge shotguns, I also have a new Winchester 1894 repeater, an M1 Garand, 44 Magnum, Beretta 9MM.

 

With all your coin postings put a comment in to view your other items for sale.. then List you have a smith and wesson for sale with ammo. lol

 

I am 6'5" 290 pounds. In canada they frown on us carrying guns around but I do have a tazer

 

I'd be getting ALL kinds of looks if I went out into public carrying all those firearms.

I usually only take the 9MM with me. I've had a carry permit for years.
