Threw a couple of photos in the "Recent Acquisitions" thread, wanted to get each set it's own "love." Ha! I've taken the photos down to just the MM, and I'll list them in order of cent, nickel, dime, quarter, half, dollar. Let me know what you think!
At a quick glance, I'm thinking that the quarter of set 2 is definitely a Type 2. All the others...I'm thinking if I had to choose, they are Type 1. What is the general consensus?
These are hard to tell, but I think the dime and nickel are type 2 and I believe that your half might be also. I am going mostly by the angle bottom bulb. Look at these to confirm http://www.lincolncentresource.com/San_Fransisco_Mintmark_Styles.html
Quarter in set 2 and the dollar from set 2 (photo 3) are Type II All the rest are Type I. If you concentrate on the upper loop of the Type II, it is slightly larger than the lower loop. The upper loop of the Type I mint mark is more symmetrical with the lower loop. Symmetry doesn't exist on the Type II. The dollar commands a pretty good premium. Congrats!
It's kind of like looking at 1916 Standing Libs vs. 17 Type Is. After a while you recognize them like your own kids' faces at a glance.
Thanks for all the feedback so far. I kinda had a feeling about that second SBA...just because the two MM next to each other looked totally different in hand. Mike, you don't think either Kennedy is a 2? Honestly, it doesn't matter much if at least that second SBA is a Type 2 (no need to get greedy...I only spent $4/set on them...) But it is pretty difficult to tell...
