This morning I went to the bank to make some deposits. While at the counter I asked if they had any half dollars. The teller told me a woman brought in a big bag and they rolled them up this morning....$560 worth of them. I took them all, never really searching through halves like this before and ended up finding 66 40% Kennedy's. Not a bad day and not a bad first search through half dollars!! Melt right now puts my find at about $320 dollars.
RedRaider, you wouldn't happen to be in PA would you? Your username is the name of our local high school mascot.
That is a pretty nice haul. Love the "old lady dropped off rolls" conversation, when it comes up of course.
This is what I dont understand about the old lady drop offs. Wouldn't you think that old ladies would know that these coins are silver because they are from their generation? I would think younger people would be more likely to dump silver at banks. One time I spotted a silver quarter in a cash registers tray and asked if I could see it (I'm 23 she was prob 20), I got the weirdest look but I just said oh, I collect quarters and I need this year. It was a 63 quarter I sometimes wish I had a cashier job so I could search through my register haha
Do you think that this score was because the lady brought them in not knowing that some of them were silver? I ordered a box and got skunked.
My theory is these folks may know they are silver but don't keep up with the value of silver so don't realize they are worth more than 50 cents a piece. Also I'm glad I had a look at this thread because I am an Auburn graduate as well living in Mississippi right now, had seen AUTiger before on here and never mentioned anything, but what a small world.
