Guys, I have been actively searching for wheat and pre-82 pennies out of the penny boxes from my bank. The second last box was surprisingly full of the 2012 new penny (almost more than half). The last one I got was even more surprising. From the look of it, all of the rolls seem to be 2012 coins. The question is; if you were me, what would you do with this box? keep it in the box, break it and search for possible high quality pennies? or simply return it to the bank? Thanks!
See if your local coin shop would be interested in buying some rolls for a premium...same with ebay....I did that in 2010 with a box of dimes.
I just moved to Cincinnati about 6 months ago. There is a gas station that I frequent within walking distance of my apartment. I don't know if they get their coins from a federal reserve bank or what, but 90% of the change (all denomonations) that I get from them are brand spanking new. I keep thinking that I should ask to buy a couple of random rolls. ****, maybe I'll walk over there right now and ask before I forget again. What's an MS70 2012 cent going for these days?
There probably isn't much of a market for them on eBay. It took me 6 months to sell a half box of 2011D, and I broke even on the deal. I do swap new D rolls when someone has P. What has been done in the past, is a CT member and myself agree to swap. Go to PM and exchange addresses. Each of us pays their own shipping and mails the roll/rolls and get yours in the mail. I don't have the Ds yet, but am planning on buying boxes next week. If you want to get together, PM me. gary
I doubt that a PCGS/NGC?ANACS 2012 MS70 will bring in the cost of grading. There are gonna be a crapzillion minted and of course, with the minting methods improving all the time, more higher grade coins will be sent out. Just my opinion.
I am not looking for profits at all. But if anyone wants them (and I know a few have requested these rolls), I am merely asking for face value and the cost of shipping. The only thing that I want people to consider is that I need to send them using a small flat rate Priority Mail that costs 5.15 for shipping alone. I can't say for certain whether I have both Denver and Philly rolls, since I can't break the rolls from the new box. But from the look of all the new rolls and my experience from opening the rolls from the other box, it seems that I only have pennies from Philly since they don't have mintmark. Plus I live in PA. So, swapping seems like a good idea to me. Let me know when you have some D mintmark. Thanks!
Does anyone know what's the safest and the cheapest method of shipping for rolls of pennies, say for a package of 5 rolls? Thanks and I appreciate your opinion.
What I did was tape the rolls to a flat of cardboard and put it in a bubble mailer. Using either first class, or a priority shipping flat rate box.
Thanks for your comment. Did you remember how much was the postage for the first class one? I believe the post office will weigh the package and determine the cost for postage depending on the weight of the package??? I was planning to use the small flat rate Priority Mail for shipping these rolls.
I believe the first class postage was somewhere around $8 when I sent 5 rolls, so in turn I grabbed a flat rate envelope and sent it for $4.95
I save two rolls of each p and d each year (don't know why....I just do). However, I haven't found any yet in 2012. But when I do, I'd like to trade. I only have one P roll from 2011 and could trade if anyone has one. bob
