I'll post pictures of it this evening. I just pulled that grade from who knows where?!?! Perhaps I paid a big premium maybe not. Any ideas as to its value if it is indeed VG?

I am looking around on-line and on Heritage Auctions, I see there is an 1893 S listed as VG10 by PCGS going for $2,200.00. The other values they give on various other price lists show from $2,000.00 (VG8) to the mid $3,000s. I hope this helps (and is in the ballpark).

If you bought that coin raw I sure hope you trust the seller a lot. I don't see anything that makes me suspicious really.

As for grade, the reverse is better than the obverse. But the gouge in the eagle's breast would probably keep it at G6 - it might even get the coin body bagged.

    I agree with G6.

I've heard that there are a good many fakes out there of this coin....But I agree with GDJMSP--I don't see anything that jumps out.
I would also agree with the G as the grade.

How does a key date get worn down to Good, when silver dollars didn't circulate much ?

Easy, by circulating. Even though they didn't circulate much as a general rule - some of them (meaning individual coins) did circulate a lot. It is not uncommon at all to find this particular coin in this grade or close to it. Many of them have been certified as such.

AAAARRRRRRRRHHHHH!!!!!! THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!! I'm gonna force my dealer to take it back. Most likely he'll buy the coin back for what I paid in exchange for a more valuable coin!?!? THAT's IT!!!! I'll never buy rare unless it's graded.

    Value on a P of S '93 s ? LOL

Is it a terrible idea to send it off for grading now that we all know I lost money? Did I lose money? Should I ask the dealer to take it back on trade? I am fairly certain he will. HELP PLEASE?

Now feast your eyes on this!!!!!
(In an effort to save face) LOL :rolling:

I know the 93-s comes low grade, it's just odd. I guess the other dates like 81-s come MS ( seems they are all MS) because they never made it out of the vault.

lists $2500 in G-4 in coin values, so you are OK, but I'd want it slabbed by PCGS.

A g-6 example in a pcgs slab sold for 2500 in april through heritage. I think you did alright assuming that your coin doesn't get returned for damage. I don't think the ding is significant enough. I'd have it graded, and if it comes back in a bb or as a counterfeit, then I would take it back to your dealer, and demand your money back.

i checked that gouge really close. Perhaps it was a gouge as an AU and now the circulation of the coin has made it just about flush with the rest of the chest. There is indeed a dark spot there but with neither a loop or back edge of my finger nail can I see or feel a gouge. Does that mean anything or not? In other words, if it is not a gouge, could it grade a tad better?

Thanks to all for being kind enough to reply to the newbie! :)

    edit: for spelling

I think your coin would grade a g-6. There is too much wear on the front as evidenced by the lack of detail in the hair, IMO to meet the vg grade, whether or not the gouge exists (which it doesn't).
