Ok so when I first got this coin I thought it was fake. Its plated in gold or something and I never really paid it much mind (i got it for free from a guy in estonia)

But I picked it up and took a closer look the details on the coin are all matching to a real 1932 quarter. The problems I have with this is first is the coin even real, and if it is, is it a S or a P.

Facts: it weighs the right amount at 5.9 grams (i have plenty of real silver quarters that weigh less)
It is the right size and thickness
Its made or coated out of a different metal, the color in the pics is accurate.

That bubbly surface is a dead give away. That is a cast coin. I will bet that it does not ring at all.

I agree, bubbly surface is the easiest way to tell its false. There are a few other reasons, but that is the easiest to point out to everyone.

Just seeing how much the S mint mark stands out from the rest of the coin is a dead giveaway to me. It looks out of place.

Not only that, it looks like the mintmark was added afterwards. So it looks like a cast 1932 P with an S added lol

But it did let me catch a typo in my 2010 Redbook. The line reads:
    185.00 200.00 225 30 320 500 1,500 6,250.

I'm sure the 30 in EF-40 is missing an 0.

Nah EF40 is now known as the blackhole grade. anything in it gets sucked in and lost forever. Hence why vf35 and xf45 are worth so much more.

There are numerous typos and even mistakes in the Redbook, many of which have gone uncorrected for years.

    The entire coin is counterfeit.

Minor differences in the bust and face give it away for me... besides the surfaces of course.
