this is a 1897 O morgan here is some pics i need help with if its a vam should i get it graded and what do you guys think grade is Thank You
Is it a VAM? Yes. All Morgan and Peace dollars are VAMs. It is a designation for the die pair and die state. The majority of VAMs do not carry any premium. From what I remember, there aren't many key/rare VAMs for 1897-0. There is one with a large crack on the reverse and a displaced field. I don't see this diagnostic on your coin. It looks like it's been cleaned. I'll let the experts judge the grade.
The coin would get body bagged for cleaning. I would say a net grade of VF30 for this one. $15.00-$20.00. Just my opinion.
I really dont know much about coins im just starting but with my limited knowledge it doesnt really look clean should i try some more pics to send to you guys and im i doing the pics wrong ty you for responding
Is everyone saying it has been cleaned because the fields have very different colors? Also, an xf-45 IMO (not sure about the cleaning though).
um well the reason why the coin looks brighter on top is cause the camera was blocking some of the light also i read in photograde that in some branch mints the eagles breast was struck light and grading would take that into account is this one of those cases ill get bigger pics and will try to get it so the camera doesnt block it
Not sure about the VAM, but I'd say AU-53 on the grade. Remember the New Orleans coins are pretty lightly struck. Bone
There is a nice little gouge/scratch on the reverse above "god" in the motto. That would bring it down a notch IMHO.
i know this is a older thread but based on a au50 to au55 none cleaned grade what would CDN say it was worth my digatal camara is broken so picts will not be coming any time soon
I don't think the coin would go AU, but if it did value would be about $75. I think a more accurate value would be about $35.
