Hello everyone, I am kind of new to coin collecting and have been coin roll for about 2 and a half months and have been working on a high speed half dollar sorter ( I am almost done with the design ) Yesterday I bought a 1909 VDB wheat cent graded by ICG MS67 RED for 202.50 + shipping on ebay. Do you guys thank it is “over graded”,and how much do you guy thank its worth? Here is the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item4602034403&item=300681479171&nma=true&pt=Coins_US_Individual&rt=nc&si=x5WNDogNKVVzAKOJy47G%2BsYZjjo%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Coinstar,
Even if is crosses to a NGC 66, you did well. I really doubt it would make it to a 67, but it might have a shot at a 66 depending on how much is on the slab versus coin on the reverse. Regardless, you took a heck of a chance getting an ICG slab for that much. Good luck!
Well said by the first two responders. Again, first order of business is to flip it to NGC or PCGS and let it ride. A 66 grade will get your money back for sure.
I'm of the opinion that it's a MS-66 coin. Looks like it has nice surfaces, but a little bit of a weak strike, particularly on the reverse.
Yup......http://www.davidlawrence.com/inventory/viewitem.cfm/inventory/345133/inm/1909-VDB-1c-PCGS-MS66-RD/snm/Lincoln-Cents/gnm/Small-Cents/auc/673/lotid/956172 :thumb:
Looks like an MS66RD to me from those photos and you paid a fair price for it. If you tried to cross it to PCGS or NGC it would cost you around $50 or so and there's the risk that it wouldn't grade a 66 too. The ICG slabs completely cover the rims of the coin so you can't see if there are any hits or other damage to the rims which would limit the grade or keep it from grading at all. Can't really tell from the photos whether it would have a chance at MS67RD at one of the other companies, but MS67RDs have been very tough to make in the past few years at PCGS & NGC, but particularly PCGS. Overall, I think you did ok on the coin.
Just not sure about the small smudge at the 6 oclock on the reverse. Otherwise I'd be inclined to say this has a fair shot at 67. I think you did very well.
You really are going to have to wait until it comes because pics on ebay can be deceiving. Im not saying that in a bad way because i have scored good coins because of bad photos before, you never know.
Hello everyone, Thanks for the input. It come in the mail yesterday and I have pics . On the obverse, I see one small hairline scratch about 1mm long in the middle right of the coin about 4.5 mm up from the 0 in the 1909 and a 1 to .75 of a mm red spot on Lincoln head over by the O in GOD. On the reverse , I see about 4 thiner then a l hairline scratch on the letter N in one and about 3 thiner thin a l hairline scratch on the letter O in one (as far as I can tell it does not interfere completely). There is 6 to 7 red dots (As small or smaller then a grain of sand) on the reverse side of the coin. Also, the white smudges at six o'clock are on the case and not the coin (picture 2). Thanks!
