I have 2 coins from the anniversary set that have errors (both have struck thrus and one has additional bubbles) that I want to resubmit to PCGS. I'm trying to fill out the form, but I'm confused! Should I select the $50 Mint error service level or do I need to pay for both Modern + the Mint Error. Will I lose my First Strike rating on these coins or do I have to pay that fee again also to keep it? I'm sure these forms are easy for those of you who submit regularly, but it's completely foreign to me! Lastly, will PCGS do variety attributions yet or is it too early for that? Thank you!
The way I read the form, it appears that you would pay $50 to have the Mint Error graded. Both "modern" and "mint errors" are listed as service levels in section B of the form and you should only be checking one of those boxes. In addition to the $50, you'll pay an $8 handling fee plus return shipping charges (minimum $16.95). If the coin is already First Strike, you shouldn't have to pay the fee again. Not sure if PCGS recognizes any varieties on those yet, but if they did, you would have to add an additional $24 per coin for attribution. It's best to call PCGS customer service to confirm all of this.
sounds like a lot of money, better call and make sure before you send it in. I haven't seen any of them with any kind of mint error label on them yet, does PCGS or NGC recognize any errors on this set yet?
I had the more severe one evaluated first via email by Ken Potter & Mike Diamond. I wanted to let Mike do the in-person evaluation, but I was concerned about losing the First Strike & PCGS grade that I had already spent so much $ for. In the end I thought it was best to just send these back to PCGS and overpay this time around.
