I am very new at taking a closer look at my change, I do believe though that I have found a quarter with some extra metal. Like some exra metal from other quarters might have gotten stuck while it was being stamped (I am still learning some coin terms and what not so be patient with me) I was curious if I found something, or if it is just a bust. By the way I appologize if I don't get my links working like they should, or if my pictures aren't in good quality(I took it through my phone and a magnifying glass lol)
I'm not sure what you're referring to on the reverse, but filled die chips like those on the obverse are fairly common especially in the center of small letters. You see, there is supposed to be a small "post" on the die to form the center of a letter, like an "O" or "D", and it is easy for it to break away after striking hundreds or thousands of coins. The filled die break along the base of Washington's neck is another common one because it is along an edge where the surface of the die transitions from the field to the incuse (recessed) design element. Chris
I was just posting a picture of the back of the coin, I didn't see anything on the back of the coin other then some chips. Thank you for replying. Just one of those weird things to see when you first start checking your change.
Oh and one more question, So filled mint marks to the point they are just a lump or something of the sort are fairly common too?
Yes. They make interesting conversation pieces to add to an error collection, but they don't add much to the value of the coin unless you happen to find a couple of bidiots on FleaBay. Chris
Some of them aren't idiots. Some people have way more money than they know what to do with, so they might decide they want a coin collection with as many varieties as possible, so they bid and don't care about the price. They just want it! lol
