Haven't there been cases where 1965 dimes were struck on silver planchets. It would be very rare for that kind of thing to happen, but it could be possible to happen with a Dime or a Quarter, correct? On the other hand, I've seen numerous 1965 coins that have all silver edges because the copper seems to have worn away. A simple ring test should clarify everythig, no. Or at least a picture. HOTN
My advice to you is to bring it to a local coin shop for a second opinion. If he is convinced it is the real deal, have him submit it for authentification and grading through one of the major coin graders. Slabbing coins is not very cheap, but if this coin is genuine, it will be well worth the fees.
99.99% its a regular old 1965 quarter. Put it on the scale and lets see what its exact weight is before talking about grading and building patios with the profits imo. Yes there are real 1965 silver quarters, its estimated there was less then 2000 made though and undoubtedly most of those have gone to coin heaven.
Probably a LOT less (less than a dozen), but if you do a search on CT for "1965 silver quarter", then the 2,000 figure is way low, lol.
I know for sure it was over 2000. I have about 2200 of them myself. I know they're silver because I think they are, and I know what silver coins look like. Shoot, I found 11 just last week in rolls. 5 of them are BU!
There ARE silver 1965 quarters, yes, but they are extremely rare. Beware that this may also be a fake. http://minterrornews.com/1619099-001slab.jpg
Dang, didn't even notice! Guess I just want to see a real 65 silver.... They do exist, like a few 64 clad.
