Today, I made the trip to Baltimore. I showed up around 11:30 with a good friend of mine in tow. This is the first year that I had all my coins purchased before I even got to the show. First stop was at table 310. There I spoke with Mike Hayes and Arnie Heller. I was to pick up 2 coins from Mike, and 1 from Arnie. I ended up picking up one more from Arnie as well. These guys had such nice Barber Halves. I wish I had more money in my coin budget to spend, but I couldn't. Mike also had his two Barber error coins on display. What a sight to behold. Really cool stuff. Mike was as inviting as always, and it was the first time I met Arnie. Two very nice guys. Next stop was to PCGS to drop off my submission. I am very glad I had my form filled out with all of the coins bundled in flips and labeled. If not, I would have been waiting there forever. Luckily one of the nice ladies there realized I was 100% complete and took my submission while one of her other clients was filling out the submission. My third stop was to Glenn Holsonbake. Glenn was holding two coins for me at the show. Glenn was stationed at Larry Shapiro's table. Glenn is a super nice guy and always welcoming. We chatted for a bit and then I moved on to my next stop. By the way, Don Rinkor has some of the most amazing DMPL morgans I have ever seen. I'm not usually a morgan fan, but I walked away from that table as one. My fourth stop was to Todd from BlueCC photos. Todd is another very nice guy. I had him shoot my NEWPS as well as two other coins I brought along. My friend I perused the floor for the next couple of hours. I wasn't really looking for anything at that point, but still wanted to look. I was mainly looking at Seated Halves and I found one I have been looking for for sometime now. It was an 1891 in F12. A very original coin, and I fell in love with it. Unfortunately, that was the wrong day to see it. I had to pass on it, but I will own one some day. All in all, I had a great time. Next time, I'll try not to purchase my coins before the show so I can give a better report. Oh yeah, and the pics.
Terrific report Justin and I must say I do admire your style. You knew exactly what you wanted ahead of time and didn't waver a bit from the plan, thereby eliminating the much feared and ill advised 'impulse buy'.
Ok - no clue. But here is a shot at the first 4. What really kills me is when some things make me lean one way and something else the opposite but I guess thats how it goes 15 25 30 20 (although I think the obv could be 15) 15 30 25 20
Jim, some nice guesses. Grading is subjective. PCGS felt there was only 15-25 in this group of 8. I think there is atleast one 30.
Nice pick-ups Justin! Sounds like a very productive trip. Those big coin shows are always fun, and you made the most of it by doing your homework before hand. Those are all great mid-grade Barber Halves...with 'the look' that we like so much. Well done.
