My mom recieved this coin from a commemerative collection place and the coin appears to be in perfect condition BUT it has 2 heads. You can clearly see that Lincoln is printed on the coin and is beautuful but under him is Van Buren... We are both really confused about this coin and would appreciate any information that you can provide. Thank you
Has anyone ever seen anything like this b4? It came from a mint company, from their vault. I'm more curious if anyone has ever seen anything like this, not so much if it's worth more than a buck... I think it's very cool looking yet weird at the same time...
Michelle, It did not come from the US mint that way, I would say the company that put the "commemertive set" together put what appears to be a sticker of Lincoln on the Reverse of the Van Burren dollar.
To start off, did you buy it off of a television show like coinvault? One thing is that when they come from the mint they are all one color, gold, which is why they are called golden dollars. Some company has colorized it. If you are looking at the extra head looking thing at Lincolns collar, that is from the company. if you are referring to the extra Fro, I do not believe that any presidents before Lincoln, or immediately afterward, had that, and if they did, it is now damaged to a fraction of any value it had. It could be Martin Van Buren, but I dont know exactly. The other possibility is that it is bubbles that got stuck below the colorization. Either way I have never seen something like it.:thumb:
Michelle, Companies (not affiliated with the US Mint) have been colorizing dollars, halves and quarters for a long, long time. Whenever they have a bulk submission for grading, there are always coins that do not make the minimum grade requested by the submitter. Sometimes, they just use the "rejects" to put together uncirculated sets. Other times, they will sell them to an art company so they can make these and sell them at a ridiculously higher rate than face value. Franklin Mint and Coin Vault have a field day with this stuff. Exactly...and it's a sticker of Lincoln that's attached to a Van Buren dollar. I wonder whether it's a mistake on the part of the company that colorized the coin, or whether they always mix-and-match their stickers like this. Do you have the colorized coins for the rest of the presidents too, to check whether those stickers match their coins? Either way, it's not likely to have value over $1....
Somebody at the private company put the Lincoln sticker on the wrong coin. Another possibility is they were making up a set of President and since not all of them were out yet they just put the stickers on whatever dollars they had on hand.
Its a dubious coin because on the Presidential Coin, the number of which president they are and the years they served are on the bottom of the obverse side of the coin and not at the top.
Like I said I am not concerned about the value, only if anyone had ever seen anything like this before. The information from wher my mom received this is at her home, I will be going there today and I'll get the info. I think that it might have been a mistake but I'm pretty new at this kiind of stuff. And it's not like a regurlar sticker that one can just peal off, it looks as if it has been painted on there, and it is Lincoln painted on over VanBuren which I thought was very odd especially since it was just one single coin that was sent with some other coins...
