I received a $20 bill and as I was looking at it inspecting the serial number,(the top serial number), I noticed a small pyramid shape showing through from the backside. The bill is a 2006 bill, it has the watermark, there are red and blue fibers in the paper, and everything suggests that it is real. I looked everywhere for info on the pyramid but there are no mentions of a 20 dollar bill with a pyramid, I thought maybe someone drew it on, but its not pencil, and the ink is under the little yellow 20(s) that are all over the back, and its way to defined to have been done by a pen. The pyramid is half-black, and the other half is the color of the bill. When looking at the back of the dollar, the pyramid is on the left of the white house. Does anyone know anything about this?
It could be a stamp, I have seen one of those before with a little earth-like looking circle on it before and the guy at the coin store told me that it was a stamp put on post mint by somebody,.....it definitely wasn't the same design at all but it could be the same type thing.
If you look close at lots of paper money, especially 20's and 100's they often have small stamps on them, like that pyrimid. I did some research online, here is a link with another pyrimid bill http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x4421465 I read somewhere else awhile ago that these marks are used lots of times in other countries where the dollar is traded to verify trade between individuals.
Thats what they were called. Here is some more 'chopmarks' on money : https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1382079108540.2047440.1128831708&l=421328eaed
