For some reason, a picture of a rainbow toned coin that captures the luster usually doesn't show the colors very well, and vice versa.
What do you think of the pics of this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1876-CC-SEA...25?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item53ec1cfdcd I'm thinking about this one for my US type set. Not sure though. It looks overly bright like your first barber pic. This could be a cleaned problem coin.
The good news is that eBay will allow free photos starting July 2. That should help...at least those who care what their photos look like. I can't wait to see an auction with 18 blurry, off-center, poorly lighted shots.
As far as photos go, the two biggest things to watch for, IMO, are tilted photos (like the barber quarter) and saturation/color enhancement (like Vess' morgan). Tilted photos hide hairlines and hits. Saturation enhancement makes colors more vivid. Both are widely used to scam people on the internet.
Yeah, kind of what I was thinking. At first I was a little excited about it but the more you look at something like that, the more you start to get a bad feeling. It's also a full AU-58, slabbed price. To me, that is a prime example of ebay material. I believe there are a lot of good coins out there. They just aren't for sale. There are quality coins on ebay but it seems to be a small percentage of the overall offering there.
