the one you showed is a small date, if they are all small dates then I can imagine it be worth a pretty penny..get it :)

yeah, they are all unc s small dates. i could never imagine that his pennies are worth as much as his silver coin collection.

Yes, that top is. And I'm glad you showed it, because my first impression of the 7 is that the top stroke has a wedge shape (especially on the lower edge of that stroke) rather than a more straightforward rectangular uniformity. Which is cool, because I hadn't noticed that before on the sites that show the date and how to tell the difference. I just went to one of those sites, and I can see it now. Nice to add to my way of looking at a small date 1970 to tell the difference.

It sounds like your friend or relative has more than a few $ worth of small date 70-S cents, if that's a whole roll of them - nice!

i put a barter ad up to trade some of these pennies(after i really look at them for errors) for equally valued coins to start my own collection right. i have a 1973 mint unc silver eisenhower in the original packaging with a perfect round circle with with a dot in the middle of it burned into the wing of the eagle. that is my first coin and the year i was born. 2012-03-18 13.35.24.jpg 2012-03-18 13.36.12.jpg

i didnt trade a penny for this. i kept one for myself from 73 and found the circle when i looked at it later. anyone know what caused it? a coin buyer said it came from the mint that way, but he had no idea what did it.

i didnt trade a penny for this, i kept it out of the collection because it was my bitrh year. any idea what could have caused this? im stumped and a coin buyer looked at it and said it surely came from the mint that way, but he didnt know what caused it.

Looks like what is called a carbon spot, caused by someone coughing or sneezing on the coin. Carbon spots are not desirable, are impossible to remove, and lower the value or a coin.

Is there anyway for you to post a very close up pic of just the date of one of your 1970-s cents?

its burned fairly deeply into the coin in a perfect circle with a dot burned in the dead center. do carbon burns do this in such a symetric pattern?

my camera wont focus any closer that that. i tried. i looked at macros online and my pennies with a glass and they have all the points. no crease, level numbers, loop of the nine.
