Not exactly sure what you are asking. Are you referring to new coins or older coins?

Personally, I have always liked coins from the branch mints. I live an hour from the Denver Mint and I have toured that Mint several times. I guess I am drawn to coins from the Denver Mint because of my proximity to that Mint plus I have been right where the coins are made.

I assume that you are asking based on our experiences with the quality of the products. If this is correct, then I wouldn't choose either one based on the business strikes from the last 15 years or so. I've had bags of Westward Journey nickels from Philly that were so bad that they actually snagged my cotton gloves; I've had bags of Sacagawea Philly dollars with better than 20% receiving grades of MS67 & MS68, but the Denver bags were so terrible that nothing was worth submitting; for some years, Kennedy halves from Philly were better, and in other years, the Denver bags were better; the same was true with the State Quarters. You never knew which business strikes would be better quality.

Philadelphia without a doubt. Large cents from Denver are very rare.

just want to get a feel for the mints and if coins from a particular mint are more rare or worth more than others of the same grade and year. i guess it would depend on the coins in question.
i was looking into getting a set of BU coins from my birth year (1979) to add to my collection and wanted to know if one set may be more rare or worth more than the other.
good info here, thanks for your reply's

If I'm looking at the right link, those aren't certified. It appears that the seller was too lazy to write a completely new description. Note that it also says they are from the Carson City Mint.

You'd be better off with the mint set McBlzr posted rather than the one you posted. These for sure are uncirculated as the others you have a chance of recieving someones pocket change and you get less number of coins

I personally really like the history attached to the Philidelphia mint.

I should have made it clear that the Carson City Mint had been closed for decades in 1979.

Tell you what, though, I would let you keep all of your Philly large cents in exchange for one Denver one. ;)

I like the Eagles but I think the Broncos are a better team.
