The USPS made no attempt to deliver a package to me. It contains coins and requires my signature. The carrier just left a notice in my box. I tried numerous times to have it redelivered but they wouldn’t do it. After many attempts and not being able to reach my local office by phone I called my Congressman. I also called the USPS hotline. No one ever called me back. After a week I did receive a call from the regional office in Pittsburgh. They tried but again, no one in my local office would answer. The hotline, the district office, the regional office, the eastern office in New York and my congressman all tried to have my package delivered to me. The notice was left on 11-19-22. At one point the postal regional office told me that my package was lost. Well after all these attempts and people trying to get USPS to do their job and deliver the package it was returned to the sender. They received it back on 12-27-22. I received my next packing from the same sender. It still had coins and required my signature. This time it was delivered, to my door and placed in my hands by a very nice UPS driver. The postal carrier wrote and scanned the tracking NO ACCESS. UPS had no problems whatsoever in accessing my house. I have no bars, fences or gates and 24’ box trucks deliver to my door. A privately owned jeep cannot access the same address. Unbelievable to me. The sender, whom I do business with on a monthly basis has already sent the package to me today via, you guessed it, UPS. The expected delivery date is Tuesday 1-3-23. I have no doubts it will arrive on time and be brought to my door as it needs my signature. All this is on top of the preceding month in with the USPS carrier forged my initials and shoved a $2200.00 package in the mailbox, which can not be seen from my house. No more USPS packages for me as they will all be delivered by UPS. I am considering writing a letter to the postmaster general in Washington DC but I really don’t want to use a stamp to do so. Anyone who conducts business the way the postal service has these past 3 months is not worthy of receiving my business. Remember, I’m a retired postal manager.
I guarantee it’s sitting at the post office! My son had a package in route to kingdom come. I went with his wife to post office, talked to a competent person, it was there! The work ethic today is shameful and sad! They had ordered originally through UPS and ended up at post office. Come 2023, postal service is going up, said by the post office. I said surprise surprise! Just like insurance. Our homeowners increased, yes increased by $2000. That’s the increase. I hope they find your coins my friend. Stay on them. I used the reverse approach, lol, killed with kindness. Not saying you are not, but if you are like me, we kinda tell it like it is. You will find it! I would not leave post office until it’s tracked. No threats lol!
I'm a retired (30 years) UPS person, and I'll tell ya, we had our share of knuckleheads too. Sounds like you have a bag of hammers running things down in your local PO........
Yes for sure but I’m the day, people were scared to lose their jobs. Respect and the ones not, insubordinate!
By the time I left the military in 1994, I had friends and acquaintances that had gone to work all over the government (FBI, NSA, DIA, etc AND the USPS). Based on my experiences with these people in military policing, they ended up in the right place. Lol
Your place sounds a lot like mine. Can’t see the mail box, no gates, etc. I’m on top of a hill on the corner of two dead end streets. You can drive through from either street and be in front of the house. Everyone except the USPS delivers to our doorstep. I’ve explained to several USPS contract carriers that they can drive through and literally not miss a mailbox. They still toss stuff out on the ground near the box.
Our USPS carrier won’t bring anything to our house, stating we live more than 1/2 mile from the cluster box -which we do not. Apparently that is the magic number where they don’t have to attempt delivery and no amount of arguing or mapping data changes it. So I just make frequent trips to the post office... In the grand scheme of things, this is an annoying problem but not one I choose to loose sleep about.
It is very much! It’s call lazy. No pride in working and corporations don’t increase payroll and then when they do, people do not want to work.
I’ve had my share of dealing with lazy delivery people but I have to say that our USPS guy is awesome. My 90 year old father had trouble getting to the mail box and would sit on the front porch. Our mailman saw this one day and got out and walked the mail up to my father on the porch. Stayed and chatted with him for a couple minutes. After that he started bringing the mail up to the porch and placing partially under the doormat and then rang the bell to let my dad know he had dropped off the mail. This was way above and beyond anything he was required to do. Found out later that he did this for a lot of the elderly on his route. I asked him one day about it and he said his momma taught him to respect his elders. That’s the difference in most people today. It comes down to how you were raised and taught.
Yes it is. Such a great story. We have a main mail carrier. She does bring to door etc. My son had some issues but it got straightened out. There are good people still out there. It does come down to parenting. Thanks for the special story! Happy New Year!
Oh I don’t loose any sleep over things like this, but I do my best to deal with it and get satisfaction. Since the postal service is unwilling to do the same job they used to do I now use their competitors. But no missing sleep.
What astonishes me is how variable the customer service is with USPS. My local PO is amazing and so is my carrier. They will look for lost packages and call me if there are issues. However the post office in the next town is atrocious. They literally start arguments and yell at customers at the counter. Our regional sorting center routinely misroutes packages and causes multi-day delays. I shipped a coin to Dallas this month that proceeded to take a round trip to Chicago. This was one of several misroutes just this month. From an outsiders perspective, it seems this variability is caused by a lack of good central leadership to establish a cohesive corporate culture and instill accountability. This results in some offices which are amazing due to local leadership and others which are an embarrassment and even downright hostile.
I still run into customers from when I managed my office. It’s been 6 plus years and to this day I still hear the same thing. They miss me and want me back. The office does no where near the business it did but correct management doesn’t care about the customers.
The retail world is drastically changing and more is online. I have a feeling further down the road, will be different. Hope you get your coins soon!!!
