Hello everyone, I just wanted to show off my new 1883 NC Liberty Nickel. I picked it for a whole $40! It's propably one of the best deals I have gotten in the past year. I'm thinking about submitting to PCGS but I don't know yet. I like to handle my coins in their natural state from time to time. I noticed multiple die cracks, anyone have any possible attribution guides for Liberty Nickels. I cannot find anything on the net.
Very nice nickel, I don't have any books on the Liberty Nickels. But I think you got a very nice deal. Before submitting the coin to PCGS, I would research them a little more. There has to be something in print by now. Did you get it at about a MS63. The pictures sure make it look nice. I can't tell if there are any marks or dings anywhere, If you think the grade is higher then it might be good to send it in.
MS 63 money is $36 and MS 64 money is $50. It's hard to say what it'll grade... But at the price you would be upside down if you submit it to PCGS
I think I may have seen those die cracks on my example, well the better one. the first was g4, vg8, something like that, and the new one is AUish, meaning i see wear, but not much. I'll look at my type set to see tomorrow, or later, depending on the lifespan of this thread.
I think that I saw a similar quality coin sold on HSN a couple of years ago for $49.99. They were probably showing the best quality coin on the show though. BTW, HSN is my favorite sitcom. I watch it when I need a laugh.
