http://www.ebay.com/sch/cwbyup1051/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686 ive been watching these because i like the luster, but i dont see anyone bidding on them. is there some thing wrong with them or is the price to high? sorry im a complete noob. haha
I think the reason people arn't bidding is because they are artificially toned, and are more than most would pay for those dates. (AT= Artificially Toned)
double grr. it say the images are protected so i cannot sorry. listed as [h=1]1891 P Morgan Silver Dollar AT Rainbow Toned Cartwheel Luster XF+/AU[/h]
Nothing is wrong, the seller clearly says they are Artificially Toned (AT) so he is giving full honesty of the ruined coins.
Well yeah, those that love toned coins want it to occur on it's own, not invoked by someone to squeeze out more money from buyers. Don't spend more because there's toning on a coin, buy it based on it's actual grade and actual value despite the tone on it.
Any artificially altered or cleaned coins are not highly sought after. We like them all natural! :smile
Dylz, Since these have been AT'ed, they are only worth melt value. Hunt, Here are four of the AT'ed Morgans. Chris
Place one on the floor of your oven near the element and turn it on for a bit. That is one way AT is done. Aso different chemicals will yield different colors. DON'T do this with your prized coins or else they are worth melt or just above.
yes, i would not like to have coins that have been altered in any way. thanks everyone for all the insight. this wont be the last you hear from me, lol
Yeah, with melt value being $25.00 they're way out of the range for guys that would just want one at melt value. So those buyers are out. Collectors want normally toned coins. Not AT ones that the seller creates in order to jack the price on a common Morgan. Those buyers are out. They're damaged and would not receive a grade. Only one's left to buy them are newbies that wonder why they aren't selling. Glad you asked. He'll end up selling some.
With the amount of Morgans that were melted over the years, and the number that are ruined by AT (and other alterations), I can't help but think that problem free Morgans will only appreciate from this in the future.
