Die error on Morgan Dollar?

    Hi All,
    Wondering what you all think about the "1" in 1901 on the face of this Morgan dollar.
    Could it be a die error?. Also would like everyones opinion about the possible grade.
    (Still on the learning curve in this area). Thanks........Patt01

    Looks like PMD (Post Mint Damage) to me. Also, that coin would not grade, it's been severely and harshly cleaned.

    To be honest, it looks like someone dipped it in a mild acid. It won't grade, so anything else is irrelevant. It's only worth melt value.

    Pmd, very harsh attempt at cleaning as well. It's a shame to see Morgans in that condition.

    Thanks for your opinions. I did use a photo enhancing software for these pic's
    I'll upload one that is untouched. Can you tell me what thru up the red flag?

    The darkness in all the devices, overall appearance of the coin and its pretty obvious in all of the pictures. As for the 1, its post mint damage. Its a bullion coin.

    I't had to have been done long before I got it as I definatly know better than to clean any coin
